topic Where are my rewards? in Credit Cards

I was excited when I got my Amex BCP for the gas and groceries rewards, however in checking my statement I noticed I was rewarded $0 in the 3% gas cash back category even though I spent over $100 at gas stations, at 4 different gas stations, one of which was Shell, which is specifically mentioned in the advertisement for the card. The 6% grocery store category seemed to be working fine. Seems like false advertising and bait and switch to me. I’ll be charging gas purchases to my cap 1 QS from now on so I know I’m getter better than 1%...amex’s loss.

My Question is: is this common with credit cards that they are stingy with gas rewards specifically? Do the cc companies use a standardized coding system? Or will I get better results if I get another card with gas rewards? There also seems to be no way to see what transactions code which way...it’s kept a big secret.

Any insight would be helpful
Thanks Fico fam!

The Amex Blue Cash family pay rewards one month in arrears: for most credit cards, if you get a statement on say June 2 this will show rewards earned in May, Amex will show those earned in April. So the first statement will show no earned rewards.

But if you are seeing 1% rewards for gas (rather than 0) then it is a coding issue with those merchants. Gas is usually less of a problem than supermarkets, but things like Costco etc are usually excluded.

Amex is definitely slow in rewards redemption -- plus you can only redeem rewards in $25 amounts (so..$25 or $50 but not $42).

Wait another month, they'll show up.

If they don't after the 1 month lag (which is normal), just message them and they'll correct it.
