It did! When they shipped me a new one they closed the account and made a new credit line for the new "card".

If I knew that I would have just left it closed and not have them send me a new one.

So back when the Pixel 2 XL was announced I was considering getting it, and I opened up a credit line with Google, they approved me for 1,500.

I've never used it because in the end I didn't get the phone. The line is still sitting there totally unusued. It's not a typical account because it's basically a Synchrony account just for the google store. I'm not sure what they expect you to do with this line if you don't get a device with it. They don't even send you a card, its basically a laminated piece of paper with a few numbers on it. I must've thrown it out when it came in because you don't feel a card in the envelope, and when I asked for a replacement they CLOSED my account and reshipped another one with a new number. If I knew they were going to close it to send me a new one I would've just left it closed...

Do these types of credit lines have different rules? Since it's been inactive since day 1, will it get closed by the grantor? Should I just close it? Maybe when google announces a new phone I may upgrade though, I'm not sure if it'll stay open by then considering Sync likes to close things without any notice.

I have 16 open credit accounts, this is one that I don't really *need*. Should I just close it? Or will Sync let me keep it on the shelf until maybe I need it one day?

Personally, I would have closed it since it appears you changed your mind after not getting the device.

These types of SYNCB specialty products are finite in their usability unless you make frequent purchases or leverage the financing options via the Google store. Plus, it's possible the new card (or replacement) may have reported as a new tradeline so you may want to check your CRs.

Well, what's done is done. So, unless you anticipate any device purchases within the next couple of months, I would close it. Just my .02¢.

Now, I could see if this were your oldest account, carrying a balance or a high CL, but it doesn't appear to be so.

Closing an account and opening a new one is typical operating procedure for Synchrony. They do this with all their lost / stolen cards. When I opened my Amazon account, it was a laminated paper also

I have an HSN card that is plastic with a magnetic strip. Ive always wondered about this as I dont know of any store you can swipe it in
