So glad this is official and out of the way. My 12th statement was supposed to close at the end of today, but I figured I'd gamble and call in to see if I could product change my Premier card to the Prestige... A nice lady from St. Louis answered the phone (an actual English speaking one) and she at first, gave me a scare when she said "I don't see the Prestige here," but then immediately corrected herself when she figured out she scrolled past the Prestige on accident.

So in other words, PC'ing to a Citi Prestige is still possible.

$350 AF?

I've been warming to Prestige a bit lately. On my last ~$6k of spend I've gotten $150 in retention credits and I'm looking at about $250 in price rewinds. Add in regular rewards and it probably works out to about 8% or more in all. Most of that spend has been on travel and price rewind-able stuff, so it's not like I'd have been putting the spend on BBP.

Got a 2x SP CLI yesterday, too.

One of my favorite places to visit is Eureka Springs, a small town in Arkansas that doesn't have any major hotel chains, just local eclectic hotels (even though the town has a population of around 2000, it also has the largest historical district in the entire state, being about 5 square miles: basically the entire town is like 100 - 150 years old and everything is well maintained by and large). I doubt any of Amex's FHR options are available: when I was looking at the IHG card, I found there isn't even a Holiday Inn anywhere near the town!

$350 fee for Prestige: it's available for people with Citi Gold or Citi Priority banking, you can get Priority banking status for $30/mo. I've read multiple accounts of people who had Gold or Priority status incidentally, got the Prestige for the reduced annual fee, and then happened to lose their Priority status and yet still retained the $350 fee. My plan is, shortly before my year comes up on my Citi Premier, open up the Priority banking status and swallow the $30 fee. Then during that first month, upgrade the Premier to the Prestige. The fee, ideally, will drop for the Prestige during the first month of the Priority status. After it does, cancel the Priority status and, theoretically, you should be able to thereby lock in the $350 fee, making the card effectively $100 or only $5 more than the Citi Premier. Frankly, I could easily save $100 on a single 4th free night stay.

PCing with TYP is not a great idea because it resets your 24 month clock for a SUB on that product line. Better to have waited the 24 months, applied for a SECOND Preferred for the sign-up bonus and THEN PC'd to Prestige, IMHO.

But does come with a downside as mentioned.

Is the premier even worth it for the 1st year? I been considering it but due to Citi’s travel partners (I don’t use any of them) it has me hesitant. It makes me wonder how I would even utilize the SUB if I don’t use its partners. Not sure how the Citi Portal is.

However, I do love the reward structure on the card. 3x on all travel and 2x on dining and entertainment is pretty good.

@Anonymous wrote:

1.25 cpp through the TY Portal.

For the first year it's worth it - $0 AF and a decent sign up bonus. Plus Citi offered 8 out 12 months with no interest.

I'd consider that, but off hand I'd rather have the Prestige sooner and dont really want another TYP card: can you even have 2 Premiers at the same time? The only thing remotely useful for me to PC the second one to would be the ATT card but that's basically useless what 2x TY for online purchases? I'll already have the Prestige, Sears MC, and Dividend. Although a second SUB would be nice.
