There will always be exceptions to the rule. I dont believe it's a 100% no. There's obviously been at least 2 people that succeeded. Also, policies do change. Cap1's secured card would graduate, then they took away the ability, then they brought it back, all in a span of 3 years. Personally, I think Chase is buckling down because we're coming up to a point similar to 2008. They just don't want to be caught with their pants around their ankles again. It also seems to be the same with most of the lenders. Everyone is tightening up.

Any "recent" recons for Chase IIB?

(EDIT: Although I want to hear about successful recons, I'd also like to hear about as many that were not as well. The goal is to compile all the data possible, to help those in the same situation as myself have easy access to something very specific. I have no idea how many have even tried, but I'd like to find out and get as much specific data as possible, in one place).

I just saw a thread where (Mod Edit) someone ... asked if Chase was BK friendly, so I decided to 1 up that OP and ask if there is anyone besides that one guy's son who has been able to recon Chase after IIB'ing them, since their alleged policy change(late 2017?). I say alleged because I read where an underwriter denied it was actual policy, yet it certainly seems like it is.

I dont recall the member whose son was able to pull it off, but if they would like to chime in with any details, I would be very grateful.

Has anyone else pulled this off since then? The fact it has been done once might be like the first time someone did the impossible and broke the 4 minute mile, which eventually became common. I started one thread similar to this before, with no replies. I no longer want the Southwest, but would like a Freedom. My IIB was about 7 years ago. My report is clean, other than the BK, if that matters. I know some are adamant that it doesnt matter, even those who have successfully reconned a Chase IIB in the past(I wont mention any names, cough cough lol).

I know I am not the only person in this situation, and I highly suspect I am not the only one who would be interested in it, which is why I felt it deserved a current thread of it's own, separate from a "bk friendly" type of thread. I will bump it occasionally if it seems necessary. I dont intend on posting many more threads, I have cleared most of the issues that are very important to me.

I dont mind if people want to give me "bad news", go ahead, I would like all of the hard data I can get before making my decision. I even perused the Credit Pulls(tm) database, and the latest success I saw was January of 2017. Of course that doesnt mean it hasnt happened, just that it hasn't been mentioned. That database is a tiny percentage of people on here, let alone in real life. My current goal is to add my own successful story, but I could benefit from some encouragement first, as could many others.

(Edits were made to ensure that the topic remained focused and followed Forum purposes --SE)

I haven’t seen any recons with Chase involving iib.

While it was common a few months ago to recon with Chase with a BK (can’t remember any involving a IIB again)....even that ship has seemed to have sailed. The current climate (at least recently reported) all BK will be denied with recons not optional.

AFAIK, Chase was not IIB for me. However, I was denied for Chase AARP when my BK was still reporting and I was unable to successfully recon. Their reasoning was that I had too many new accounts, but this was before 5/24 was official.

On a general note, I was able to get back in with every lender who was IIB, at least once my BK quit reporting. AMEX was not IIB, for anyone curious.

If it helps. I was with Chase for years checking/savings/CC. I cut up all my cards in 2005. Wasn't young, but mid-life and dumb and got into debt. All were PIF with a disability check. No lates. 13 accounts. After by BK DC in Aug 2015 10 yrs later. I went in branch. My old Chase Card was at its end of reporting no lates, opened for 7 years. Gone now.

No prequal on reps computer, and was told I could not get a card even with a measly $500 to start with to rebuild with a BK. Rep called to see about my chances. She did her best. Had my newest annual reports. No go. Never filled out an app. So no HP. I left, went across the street to Sun Trust. Opened Checking/Savings and was approved for their World MC Cash Rewards Card 5800 SL on the spot. Went back to Chase. Took my $ and said good bye. The only thing burned in my BK was Uncle Sam's 15 yr old lean that was 5x the original debt. Garnish letter led to it all. So old. It fell my reports after DC. Chase could care less.

I’ve held off my app for any Chase product for the same IIB reason. You’re correct that as far as DPs dating back from last quarter of 2017, BK reporting apps are a no go save for 1 successful 45 minute recon for a $500 measly SL. Granting, it’s still a success but to be grilled for almost an hour for that kind of CL just doesn’t warrant for me to blow a HP and roll the dice with them. Couldn’t remember the name of the poster or the thread but that’s the DP I am almost sure there is currently about Chase IIB/BK. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong and my apology in advance. But it’s up to you Cap and the rest of us in the same boat and YMMV of course.

Good Luck my friend!

I was able to recon 2 apps but got very low SLs. BK7 in 2011 and burned Chase for about 5-7k. I can't remember the exact amount.

March 2017, I got the Chase Amazon after recon with $500. Still at the same limit.

March 2018, I got the Chase FU after recon with $500 too. I actually double app'ed on the same day for the CSP, but that got denied after a pretty close approval. Final reason for the CSP denial was the minimum limit requirement. Analyst said he couldn't get me an approval for a $5k minimum SL for the card. This involved a couple of phone calls, and analyst asking to call me back to try to get me an internal approval (whatever that meant. Probably override by supervisor or something).

Looking back, I think it's a definite win to be able to recon a denial, however, I also feel that it's not worth applying with a BK still reporting. The denial will be automatic, so you always have to recon and most definitely get a low limit. Chase isn't very generous when it comes to auto CLIs even with people that have clean profiles, much worse with people with BKs reporting.

I'm not really bothered by this because I'm an AU on DW's Chase cards with decent limits ($20k or above), so I get the benefits of the UR program, but I still wanted to get my own.

I won't be applying again until the BK falls off in less than 3 years. I'm hoping that by then, my profile will be strong enough to get me an auto approval with a high limit. Almost all my cards are at $10k or above up to $41k, so I'll continue to work on those with CLIs.

My Fico8 scores are in the 750 range with utilization under 2% of about 250k total CLs.

My personal opinion: Don't apply for a Chase card with a BK on file unless you don't mind a very low limit at the very best. Work on any other lender to build a strong profile in the meantime, and apply when the BK is off your reports. A $500 limit may sound like a win, but it's really not when you can't charge more than a cell phone and cable bill before it's maxed out. And, the whole "charge and pay down cycle" gets really tiring and boring after a while.

A Chase credit analyst associate friend just recently told me in her own words, "it is near impossible to overturn any credit denial based on a bankruptcy reporting." Key word though is "near" which leads me to believe it may be doable in cases where they were not IIB but even at that, it still seems like a long shot

Captain J,

Welcome back! It’s good to see you back on the forum.

I wasn’t able to get my decline overturned in January. I applied for the Freedom card online. When I got the decline letter, I called in for a reconsideration. The analyst didn’t care that it was over 6 years after my chapter 7, my FICO 715 at the time, and my utilization was between 10 and 20 %. From what I got from the conservation, Chase Isn’t approving anything for those have bankruptcies. I did burn Chase for about $40k.

As of right now, I have not gott3n back into Chase, Citi, US Bank, and Bank of America. I currently have over $280k in credit cards and lines of credit, 2 car loans, and my Fico scores range from 722 to 735. I’m not really applying for any more cards. I have enough for me.

Hope this helps.

Guyatthebeach

Chase "supposedly" changed their policy in the last 6-8 months cant remember date if a BK shows on your report at all UW's can't overturn the initial decline. I tend to believe this to be the case whether they were IIB or not as long as it shows on your report

Thanks folks, I am very grateful for all of the replies, even if they are mostly discouraging. I also appreciate you not mocking my question, as I sometimes can get a bit sensitive and disappear for awhile, lol.

I also appreciate the glimmer of hope, because there are some of us who like to take the path less traveled in life. It's ironic, because last night in my head I was fantasizing about a recon call where I would tell the underwriter, "I'd be ok even with a limit far lower than the rest, like $1,000", and then in my head thought I'd say "even $500", but likely get more. It's funny that $500 was what the actual successes reported so far were.

Let me ask this. If someone(myself, or someone more skilled, maybe with a better profile as well) were to get this $500, 3 years ahead of the BK falling off(my situation, and I think another member just said that was about the time they had left), do you think that building 3 years of rapport with them with maybe a modest increase in SL would be less worth it than starting in 3 years with no rapport? Again, I am asking specifically for those of us who IIBed them, which I assume will remain in their internal records?

About my BK, if anyone cares, I paid for years thinking I could dig myself out. Chase AAed me from a 7.99% fixed APR when I did absolutely nothing wrong with their card, and jacked me to 29.99% or whatever their going usury rate was at the time....so not to absolve myself, but I'm curious how much they actually lost from me after years of that with all the interest I paid. Im trying to remember if I had a late payment with someone else, or if it was just my utilization with other accounts being too high, but I do remember the rep telling me it was to do with another card. Talk about learning their rules the hard way, but I dont want anyone to think I intentionally burned them, or did not try for many years to dig out, against the advice of others who told me to file for a chapter 7. I'd probably include that in my recon call, although I realize that that by itself would not be helpful, I do think it could help pain a fuller picture during the marathon calls I read about. I also wanted to give others here an idea of how things were, so that I am not accused of some of the things Ive seen others accused of on here recently.

So back to my question.... In 3 years when the bk falls off, being I IIBed them, am I assured even getting in, let alone having a much higher limit than the low one that might be possible now, plus any modest CLI(s) I may get during those 3 years? I'm not assuming anything, and figured it'd be wise to ask those who for some reason or another may have more insight.

Mind you, I was just aiming for a Freedom, not any sort of Sapphire or anything. I could probably try to find some threads that compare Freedom vs Discover IT vs whatever the US Bank rotating rewards card is, being I prequaled for the 2 latter, even though I included Discover in BK, probably for more than Chase, likely much more.

Thanks again for the replies, and in advance for any more coming. Ive been thinking about getting back in with them for years, and even offering to pay a certain user who had an epic recon call to coach me...that's how badly I wanted to get my foot back in the door, but then I read about the policy change, and it kind of feels crushing as it came right before my original plans to apply(right after the new year of 2018).

I have another question Ive been meaning to ask. Is it allowed to call/email an underwriter(or anyone who may know) in advance(before wasting a HP) and ask if you have a chance? I'm not really familiar with what's proper in even the basic rules of engagement are, and figured I'd ask. Even if it's something very uncommon, I'm just curious what is permissible/possible. Thanks.

Ok, so still waiting to hear back about how high up the totem pole you gotta go for an override, but as far as being declined for bankruptcy, it's hard coded into the system and won't allow an approval for 10 years.

There's no difference whether you included them or not. If you filed bankruptcy, youre blacklisted for 10 years. They also dont know how others have been able to recon. Its not supposed to be possible. No exceptions, even for employees.

Chase and AMEX are certainly tough with BK's, especially if they were IIB'd, but they are more forgiving than Navy Federal or USAA who have a policy of "forever banned" until the money is repaid. No exceptions. And forever is a long time.

I bet if you are a private banking client of Chase's and they are managing $10 million of your money, they will make an exception. Or if you're friends with Jamie Diamon. And if you pay them back, they will let you back in at some point. That has been written about on this forum.
