It was time for my monthly CLI's with comenity. I logged on all of my accounts and noticed that there is no longer a checkbox to opt out of having your credit file accessed. Any thoughts?

Hit or miss. I got a sp increase last month on my Zales card with that language. I think you just have to weigh the risks vs reward for the cli. Most likely if your cli were being sp they may continue to do so but perhaps this is a way for Comenity to tighten up on the increases.

The BJ's Elite Perks WMC is indeed a mixed bag. The card had an effective -$25 annual fee since I had the $100 2% rewards membership anyway, but the wording of the $25 statement credit for membership renewal has disappeared from the card's website since my last renewal in November so I am not sure if that will continue. The card does elevate that 2% to 5% back, but they are in the form of $20 BJ's discounts that can be taken at the register (the same for non-cardmembers who have the 2% back membership); it also means that you no longer earn even the 2% back when paying with any other card, though. In addition to the 5% at BJ's, the card also comes with $0.10 off per gallon at BJ's (unfortunately BJ's locations with gas are not at all convenient to me) 2% back on dining and non-BJ's gas purchases, and 1% on everything else. They also often have promotions to earn more on specific categories. The plus side is that they have the aforementioned balance transfer offers, if you're shopping at BJ's anyway 5% is hard to top when warehouse clubs aren't a Chase Freedom or Discover it category, and the starting lines tend to be generous (mine was $17k) with CLIs available every 4 months (next week will hopefully be my 5th and I'm at $23,800 now).

While the locations with gas stations are not at all convenient (the two closest would be down in Quincy or up as far north as you can go in Revere, though both are only maybe 5 or 6 miles away that would likely be an hour drive or longer most days), there is a regular one only a few miles from my house in a nearby suburb that I can usually get to in about 25 minutes. I guess it's relative to your local traffic; you think a 15-30 minute drive is far, I think 15-30 minutes is really close and convenient.

Also, since I take commuter rail in to work and do most of my driving in town (Manassas, VA and environs), I generally don't drive more than 70-80 miles per week.

Anyway, back on topic, I do have a new BJ's $25 membership offer outstanding, so I suppose it couldn't at least hurt to look at the terms and conditions for the MC if the Paypal 2% MC (which is the one I'm currently looking at) doesn't pan out. Given Comenity's legendary skittishness, I'm still nervous about getting that card if I have my Overstock still open.
