Certainly helps to offset the AF. Updated the title a little; I was on mobile and in a rush earlier.

The big question will certainly be whether it works at Saks Off Fifth or not. But yeah, I'll be happy to take $100 in merchandise (and at least 300 SkyMiles for using SkyMiles Shopping) off their hands each year.

Very interesting perk. I must say Amex sure loves to partition its credits - the Uber credit is $15/mo with the extra $20 in December and now even a credit as small is this is divided up into $50 the first half of the year and the rest in the second half. I don't shop at Saks personally but maybe I'll be more inclined to get something small with this.

Partitioning works well because a good chunk of Platinum holders DGAF about nickels and dimes. You have to pay attention to get the credit obviously

The Amex Platinum card is either perfect for someone, or it's not a good fit at all... there's very little in-between with it. (For the record, I fall into the latter category.)

That said, props to Amex for increasing the value for Platinum cardholders even more!

I think that's a great argument to be made, @UncleB, but I think there are still also probably a lot of people who have it for "the prestige" and don't make use of many of the benefits. Like those who carry high-interest balances, I'm thankful for them helping to fund the benefits that I do take advantage of.

Very true, indeed... but I would put the 'prestige' people into the 'good fit' category anyway, since even if they don't get financial or tangible bennies that outweigh the AF they get other subjective perks which makes it worthwhile to them.

My own PRG somewhat falls into this category.

Edited to add: I'm also very thankful for the people who get cards and pay interest and/or don't otherwise take full advantage of the perks!

There have been a lot of Amex offers and other "statement credit" offers that have worked for gift cards; so it's likely that it'll work.

You can activate it now (I did so), but a purchase now would not count. You must wait for July 1 to make an eligible purchase.
