Paying my Amex PRG

I received the card not to long ago and my first statement isn’t even until 7/10/18 but I’ve had difficulty paying it. I’ve made through about $1200 in charges and have paying 300 and then 725. The first 300 was fine. Then I could pay anymore. My wife really didn’t like that because we have a history of spending on cards then spends from our checking. Anyway I checked recently and it let me so that was the 725.
No the balance is 109 and I want to pay that off but it just says there’s no payment required.

So basically my question is will it always be that way or after my first statement will I be able to pay weekly basically. Because that’s the plan. I wanted to pay all of our bills, buy groceries and fill up on gas on Friday and pay it off on Monday.

I think I read somewhere here that if tou have a new accounts you can only pay online once a month. After a couple billing circles you can pay as many times as you want.
In the meantime you still can make payments by calling them.

I’m not sure how you’re paying but can you send it directly to Amex from your bank account?
I use my Amex for everything. I feel that it is more secure than using a debit card. If your debit card gets compromised it’s a lot harder to get back than using a credit card.

Hmm that would make sense because I paid it Monday. I called and they wouldn’t let me pay it through automated and even a rep couldn’t.

It doesn’t bother me but he definitely had an Indian accent and said he’d need to get someone else to take care of it.

I guess I’ll have to call and find out.

My coworker this morning got his debit card info stolen. Spent about 600 bucks. We’re an hour away from home at work and he has no access to money. Luckily he brought a lunch.

I really like using this card for everything especially since my wife is an AU and has the app on her phone and we get notifications the second either of us spend.

But it do you mean from my banks bill pay “feature”? I could try that.

Call them back and get a different rep... many others have reported that Amex can definitely initiate a payment over the phone for you if you're running up against the new account online limits.

He's talking about 'pushing' the payment from your checking account using your bank's online bill pay instead of allowing Amex to 'pull' the payment.

If you send the payment from your bank you don't have to be concerned about the first month limitations Amex has on new accounts. It does usually take a couple of days to post (whereas if you let Amex 'pull' the payment they usually give you instant credit) but unless you're bumping up against your credit limit it shouldn't be a problem.

Why not just wait, and pay it when the statement cuts?

Less trouble than what it seems you're going through.

It's not like you'll go over the limit.

Haha the reason is my wife and I were bad at spending on credit cards then spending the money in our checking account so we’ve ended up with a lot of debt.
I’ve used my debit card twice since I received the card and have reduced spending a lot but would just rather get the money out of my account ASAP. I am probably going to just wait for when the statement cuts. I should be making a lot of side job money this weekend anyway.

Whenever you add a new bank account to an American Express card they usually make you wait 30 days before using it to make a payment. I find this to be a weird rule. I recently got approved for a Platinum card and have put some heavy spending on it to make the SUB and was worried about not being able to make a payment for 30 days (I usually pay my cards in full every week), I called and was able to get around the rule by talking to a rep, although they had to get an account supervisor to approve the payment.

Not sure if it matters that I had those accounts for payments on my other cards or not, but it sure is an annoying and dumb rule.

I don't think they make you wait thirty days, just only accept one payment within the first thirty days on new accounts.

So technically you could add 3 accounts, and likely pay 3 times in 30 days. Right?

I added my savings account to see if I’d be able to pay from there and still couldn’t.
I was able to use my credit unions bill pay yesterday and it shows the payment pending.
