AMEX BCE to BCP upgrade

I have had my Blue Cash Everyday for 12 months, and have been pondering an upgrade to the BCP. SL was $1000, sitting at $3000 now, went ahead and pulled the trigger on the upgrade today. I figure I buy enough gas and groceries to make the numbers make sense.

Card is in the mail, 7-10 days.

I think there's usually a $150 bonus for doing the upgrade.

OP did you actually crunch the numbers based on your spend to determine if the AF is worth it, or are you just going with your gut?

Good grief, I completely forgot about a SUB. I have done the math, and there will be some savings. The size of the savings will be determined by whether the recent college graduate actually flies from the nest and becomes a self-sufficient adult, or lands back here in the fall like she keeps threatening to. We shall see...

This has become one of my primary cards, it gets plenty of use.

The break-even point on the BCP is $3200 of annual grocery spending. Above $3200, the BCP is better. Below $3200, the BCE is better.

I got an email with a $250 for $1000 spend upgrade offer last night. The annual fee isn’t waived the first year. So effectively, it’s a $155 upgrade bonus.

Easy spend for the bonus but I think I’ll skip it because I don’t really use my BCE card. I’ll keep this slot open for another card + SUB. Who knows when I’ll run afoul of being offered a bonus, since I’ve gotten 3 Amex’s in the last year. Granted, I haven’t closed any though.

Congrats on the upgrade! I was carrying the BCE for a very long time and just recently upgraded to BCP. The only reason I upgraded is because my grocery spending significantly increased. I think you'll like the upgrade. 👍🏻

Nice. I made this post a while back too that after it's become my main card the BCP would pay for itself. I plan on upgrading when I hit my 12 month mark.

Where exactly was the offer for the upgrade? Would it be in the same section where the shopping/travel coupons are?

The "request an upgrade" was a relatively small ribbon, but I don't recall which specific page it was on. I have previously seen the "upgrade" on my Gold Delta when I look at recommended cards. It would show Your Card and instead of APPLY, the ribbon had REQUEST UPGRADE so I assume the same would also be true with this one.

It didn't ask income questions or anything else, just clicked it, and got an instant pop-up approval with the information about the new card being en-route in 7-10 days.

I have gotten the request ribbon on the BCE but lately I havent been using the card much since we beat the brakes off the disco last quarter for it 5% cash back. DW has been using the Navy Amex More like a debit card and trying to get the SUB from that. I dont think I would hit the numbers to justify it this year. Hopefully they will have the upgrade availabe with some sign up treats($250). AMEX love the fees...

When my BCE hits the 12 month mark, i was thinking about that as well. However, after reading this, i dont spend the min 3200, and i do more walmart and that doesnt code for BCE/BCP unfortunately.

Side question, for those with upgrade offers, can you accept the upgrade + bonus, then go back and downgrade before the following year's AF hits?
