Quicksilver Mastercards being converted to Visa

I read that all Quicksilver Mastercards are being converted to Visa. I don't know why they are doing this.

Cardholders have been getting letters in the mail to this effect.

I wonder if the Savor cards will also be converted.

Has anyone heard anything?

There's an article over on DoC where someone reported getting an email that they were being changed to the Visa network, but so far nobody else in the comments has been able to confirm.

I also have a Quicksilver WEMC and I've also not heard a peep about a changeover. If it comes to fruition, this will be unique since until now as far as I know Capital One has never been willing (or able) to move an account from MasterCard to Visa (or vice versa).

The only network changes I'm aware of with Capital One in the past was for HSBC Amex and Discover cards, which were eventually transitioned to Capital One MasterCard accounts.

Hey ... UncleB did you have an HSBC American Express Card? I had one with $10K CL and a fixed 7.9% apr purchases. When I could not talk them into keeping me I closed the account before it went over the Cap1.

What a surprise. Capital One switches card networks every two months it seems like.

I've never seen any other issuer with this kind of issue.

I had the HSBC Discover card, but my grandmother had their Amex... the 'Direct Rewards' Discover wasn't that great of a card but was OK for someone with a bruised profile. On the other hand, while I don't recall the specifics I do remember being quite impressed with the terms on her Amex, so it might have been similar to your own.

Due to the obscure branding I didn't know they were "related" until I realized the online portal was the same for both when I started helping her out with her cards. She closed her Amex several years before the HSBC portfolio sale was even being considered, while I closed my Discover after the sale but before the transition (although I continued to get mail/email about it, which is how I know what would have happened).

Costs or better deal with visa is my guess.

I don't think the savor card will be converted but I imagine its annoying for cardholders who wanted to remain on the mastercard network instead of visa.

Yeah, they've been known to switch back-and-forth between MC and Visa for new accounts, but until now I've never heard of them doing a network change on an established account (not counting the previously mentioned HSBC cards that were transitioned from Discover and Amex).

Funny that you mention that... it's been almost six months to the week since I converted my Venture WEMC to a Quicksilver WEMC. I had planned to PC my Venture One MC to a Savor, but perhaps it's time to consider changing the Quicksilver WEMC instead.

That said, if they do end up changing Quicksilver WEMC cards to Visa Signature, I'm not sure why they would stop with Quicksilver... it would make more sense to do them all. (I'm hoping that doesn't happen.)

If you have the offer and prefer the mastercard network I'd recommend PC immediately just to get ahead of this.

Same. I have the savor and would like it to remain a mastercard since its my only one.

Reason I ask is I just PC’d my Platinum to a Quicksilver this week and I’m curious if I should be following a potential network change for different features or allowances or anything. It shows up online as a QS MC but a changeover night mean it’s a QS Visa and I’m not sure what the implications are.

There is no real difference between the networks imo useless you're counting the benefits in the VS/WEMC that not many people use. So no need to worry it'll just say visa instead of MC if Cap1 changes them.

They do seem to flip flop alot. My QS is in the SD, so the payment network is irrelavant, but that is aweful for those that really use it and like the MC version.

Hasn’t the Quicksilver always been a Visa card anyways. Mine has always been that from day 1 for the 3-4yrs I’ve had it... what am I missing?

@johnny50 I just recently PC-ed the QS from what was originally a secured Plat. I have Disco which is 5% (10% with my cb match) for this quarter, and i have 2 other cards that offer me 3% on dining like the savor. Cap1 is good for building in the beginning, but as i have progressed, they are less in "my" wheel house now

Capital One changes networks for new applications every few months. This is the first time we’ve seen anything that even remotely indicates that there could be network changes on existing cards.

Capital One changes networks for new applications every few months. This is the first time we’ve seen anything that even remotely indicates that there could be network changes on existing cards.

I think now I know why Capital One doesn't specify on their Platinum and Quicksilver pages which networks the cards belong to...

I've had both Visa and MasterCard QS cards. I'd prefer to leave my only Capitol One as a MasterCard.
Depending on how you use them, there's definitely a difference in MC and VISA. MC allows you to charge for payments the VISA network doesn't allow.
