Amex CLI 3x + Upgrade?

Hi All -

Hoping someone can steer me in the right direction. I have an Amex ED that I opened up in April 17, currently with a $24K CL. Opened a BCE in February of this year, currently at a measly $2K CL. At the end of August, I should be able to request a 3x CLI on the BCE. I couldn't do it earlier, as I got a 3x CLI on the ED in January 18, and then opened the BCE in February, so now I'm in the 6 month waiting period to request a CLI on the BCE. The thing is, the past several times I have logged into my account, I can see the invitation button to upgrade the BCE to a BCE Preferred. This would make sense for me to do, as even with the AF, I would still come out lookin' good. My question is - in what order should I do this? Reqest the 3x CLI at the end of August and then ask to upgrade to the Preferred? Just wasn't sure if that would work or not, and wanted to get some insight from others who knew more about it. Thanks for any feedback.

Amex's rules are that you must wait more than 180 days between CLIs on any of your accounts, not after opening an account. If you received a CLI of your ED on January 18th, the 181st day is tomorrow. (Assuming "January 18" meant January 18th and not January 2018. If it was at another time in January, just add 181 days.) You will be eligible to request a CLI on one Amex card. If approved, you'll just need to wait 181 days before asking again, or 91 days if denied. The upgrade from BCE to BCP will not affect any credit line increases, so it doesn't matter which order you do this in.

@K-in-Boston K - mucho thanks for the info.....I had gotten mixed up about the criteria for the 180 days. I should be eligible now, as my actual CLI on the ED was in early January 18 (I'll go back in my notes and make sure). Good to know.
