AMEX Blue Sky PC?

Hi everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster here. I currently have 4 AMEX cards (Blue Sky, Blue Cash Preferred, Magnet, PRG). My Blue Sky was my first AMEX card back in 2013. It hasn't gotten any use other than a reoccurring monthly charge to keep it active for the past year since I'm using other cards to maximize my rewards back. I have a CL of 20k which makes me hesitant to close it though. I've thought about transferring my CL to other cards, but my other AMEX cards have similar CL. Has anyone been able to PC it to another card or found any other options other than closing it? What's my best play with this card? Thanks!

I’d love to know this too. Blue Sky is my oldest card, it’s time for an upgrade!

Yeah it's a unique card and the only of its kind in the AMEX lineup. I don't think you can even apply for it anymore. I was looking for it under my wife's account and a credit card offer for Blue Sky didn't exist.

There was a Blue Sky Preferred, but I'm not sure if they offer it anymore.

Yep looks like it's no longer available. I'd be more interested in PC to another AMEX card. Has anyone had any luck doing that with the Blue Sky though?

Let's first rule out what they most likely won't offer as a PC:

1. You have a credit product, so they won't offer a charge card. This is an old and long-enforced rule.

2. You have a proprietary card, not a cobrand card (like a Delta or Hilton product). It's an old rule that Amex CSRs aren't supposed to allow PCs between card families. It happened for a long time, but in the last 2-3 years it's being enforced more strictly.

3. You have a personal card, not a business product.

So that leaves, as likely PC options:

Blue (weak MR earn rate)

EveryDay (weak MR earn rate)

EveryDay Preferred (strong MR earn rate, but with an AF and not too different from PRG)

Blue Cash Everyday (probably superfluous)

Blue Cash Preferred (you'd need a lot of grocery spend)

Old Blue Cash (I think they still allow PCs to it...meant for very heavy grocery spend, often with gift card purchases, ineffective without heavy spend)

Cash Magnet (you have one)

So you have options. BCP and OBC are good for very heavy grocery spend, but otherwise all your likely options are pretty mediocre.

Do you want to focus on earning cash? MRs? Some other award currency?

I have the Blue Cash Preferred and now the Cash Magnet. Don't see the point in getting an Everyday card since I prefer cash back. I guess I'd be more interested in a co-branded card, but you mentioned that they don't allow that. Any chance that I might get a rep to do it for me?

Not a chance. Looks like your only decent option is to see if you can transfer the credit limit from Blue Sky to other cards you already have.

I really haven't heard of anyone being able to PC the Blue Sky, but even if you could I think your options are going to be pretty limited. Your best bet is to just transfer the limit and close it and move on; you could also wait and see what Amex converts it to. They no longer offer the Blue Sky so eventually they will likely switch you to something else, but it could be years from now.

That's not a bad idea actually. They'll have to do something with it eventually right. I'll probably move some CL to another card and keep it open.

"Evemtually" could be several years though, and you might not like the chosen target if and when it happens.

At that time I had a targeted offer for 50K MR points for the PRG. I knew that was the best offer historically for the card. I decided to try it out. I found after I got the bonus and used the card that I prefer cash back rather than MR points.

Do you particularly want to use an Amex card for off-category spend? You could reallocate credit to Cash Magnet...but IMO 1.5% isn't that great these days.

If you do want to have an off-category Amex card, a BCP/Magnet combo could work.

That's actually why I got the Magnet. That way I could pair it with the Blue Cash Preferred. If I can't PC to a co-branded card I think my best bet is just to transfer the CL and keep it open.

Alternatively, you could see if they will give you PC Blue Sky into a second Magnet. Earn the bonus on the first Magnet and keep it a year, then transfer the CL to the second Magnet (formerly Blue Sky) and close the first Magnet.

Then you'd be able to keep an older account open.

I ended up moving a large amount of the CL from my Blue Sky to my other cards. Rep said that was really my only option since you cannot PC the Blue Sky. Guess I'll just wait to see what they do with the card in the future.

I'm surprised they didn't give you any PC options at all...not that any of them would have been very useful for you.

Anyway, you've moved some credit and now have more on the Magnet and BCP.
