I cancelled my Credit One card today

I've had it for 2.5 years (Capital One wouldn't even give me a secured card, when I started, because I was just finishing paying them back for a card I'd gotten behind on) and it's grown from $1k to $1.5k with no CLI payments from me. I used it for gas, which I got points back for. I always paid right away, in full, so I never dealt with their nonsense about getting a payment to them quickly. It's done what I needed, which was raise my scores. I have a Cap One card now, which recently got raised $3.5k to a $6k limit, so it was time to bid farewell and adieu to Credit One.

It feels good, even though I never had any problems with them. They did spend a few minutes trying to remove the monthly fee, but I pictured everyone here not-so-silently judging me if I caved, and I held firm! :-)

I'm hoping that by next year I might get a Discover card. I get weekly mailers from them, but with a 24.79% interest rate and the 0% for only six months. But when I did a prequalification from their Credit Score page, the promotional rate was 10% instead of 0%! So I know I can do better, later.

Dumped mine 2 months ago with a negative balance and did what other people have

Said and requested the closure letter. Got the letter a couple weeks later, got a check for $3.00 Then the next month they charged a $2.00 interest charge. Very sneaky, I called and got it removed but watch your account for a couple months after closing .

Congrats. I am so close to cancelling mine as well. They bill $10 a month for the monthly fee and in 2.5 years have only made it to 2k. It has not kept up with my others so I never use it.
So yeah congrats and I’m following suit 🍻

After reading a similar post on here a few days ago, I closed two of my oldest capital one cards. They had been restricted for the last 3 or so years after I messed up bad on them but i paid them all off and they’ve just been there doing nothing for me so i just chose to flat out close them. Should I be worried because they were my oldest accounts?
