Yes, I could combine the Quicksilver into the Platinum, which overall is a good deal. I keep the age, the nice APR ... It just unreasonably annoys me that I loose the whopping 0.25% cash back lol. I know it's small potatoes ... but ... Ugh!

I went to C1 when my credit was not good back in 2008 and got the visa Platinum card. This is my oldest card. Then in 2016 they gave me a Quicksilver card.
The last 2 years I have really fixed myself up, and I'm now in with Amex and Discover. Credit 692 and I expect a pretty decent jump this next reporting round.
The problem is both C1 cards have a $39 annual fee, which really digs into all these cool new cash back rewards I'm getting. I could combine the two, but there are pros and cons to each way I go.
Details:
Platinum card: opened 2008, APR 12.65%, CL $2400, $39 annual fee,1.25% cash back
Quicksilver: opened 2016, APR 24.74%, CL $2100, $39 annual fee, 1.5% cash back.

Will C1 slash the annual fee on the Quicksilver since it's advertised as no AF?
I really don't want to close the platinum since it's so old compared to all my other cards.
Is there a product change situation that may work in my favor?
Sorry for the rambling, I hope this makes sense!! TIA!

Ok this might be completely undoable but have you checked if there are any upgrades on both cards?

Might be able to get a QS upgrade (no AF) on the Plat. Not completely sure but think it has been done, and might be able to get a QS upgrade on the QS (with AF) .....

then you could get rid of the fee.. and keep the APR.... then eventually merge the cards, moving the CL onto what was originally the plat..

Might want to ask one of the C1 experts around here....

So you're saying combine the two into the Plat first, then upgrade back to the new QS? And that would completely eliminate the AF, give me the 1.5%, keep my age, and keep the low APR .... that's a lovely plan!

You have the QuicksilverOne, which has an annual fee. The Quicksilver has no fee. It probably doesn't help that the cards are practically identical in appearance.

It makes sense to try to keep the Platinum. Without knowing the ages of all your accounts, it may make sense to keep the newer QuicksilverOne too. But you definitely want to try to lose the fees. Call in and check on offers each and every month. Also, use each card at least a little bit and pay it off each month. Usage may or may not coax offers; we don't have enough data points to positively indicate that. But I was able to PC two QuicksilverOne cards after 12 or 13 consecutive months of usage.

Ohhhhhhh they are 2 different cards! Just when I thought I had it all figured out 😂 The plat was opened in 08 and is my oldest card. The QSO was opened in 2016. I will keep the age if I PC the Plat. to the QS yea? Btw I really appreciate everyone's Help!!! It gets slightly confusing and I really don't want to ruin all my hard work with one bad move.

Yep, you'll keep the card's age. Capital One product changes keep everything about the card intact except for the rewards structure, the verification code on the back, possibly the expiration date, and the annual fee (when applicable). As far as your credit report is concerned, nothing will have changed.

^^^ agreed. PC the Plat to a QS after you hit the luv button and possibly get another $100 limit bump. Then 6 months later, call CapOne and see about merging your QS1 into the QS so you’ll have one card with cashback, the combined limits of the two cards, and no annual fee. BTW that is the difference between QS (no fee) and QS1 (fee).

The one thing I'd be very careful with is the "Platinum card: opened 2008, APR 12.65%, CL $2400, $39 annual fee,1.25% cash back"

12.65% apr from Cap-1 is an excellent rate and I fear when you start doing PC's they'll adjust that to more in line with your second card at 24%+. Once done, you'll have a hard time getting it changed back. Just be very sure they are dropping the AF and NOT merging the card into the higher apr card at the higher apr.

One of the reasons I stopped doing business with Cap-1 as far as branded credit cards were all the games they play with apr's, CLI's, etc on "bucketed" cards. As far as Cabellas and the GM card, no issues, as far as Cap-1's branded cards, we closed them all (DW too).

Add: I refuse to pay any AF on an everyday spend card today especially one with less than 2% cash back. Consider this, you need to spend $2600 and pay zero interest on a $39 AF to break even - too many good cards out there that you can get with no AF and 1.5 to 2.0 cash back.

Excellent advice, thank you. I'll make sure to keep on top of that when the time comes to PC. I should be able to keep the low APR if I close/merge the higher APR card into the Plat with the low APR though yeah? I may do that first just to slash 1 AF.

I have no idea how on earth I got that APR btw. No clue. I really can't shut it down with it being ancient compared to the rest of my cards. Now that I'm in a much better place, there will be no more AF for me. I'll suck up a higher APR to get rid of it though and just never hold a balance.

Definitely don't get another QuicksilverOne. That's going to further delay getting rid of the fee. It's really hard to product-change cards with fees into no-fee cards. You don't want to make things any more complicated.

Note that the link in the post above will not include offers for the Savor card. For those, you need to call in or chat. I'd use the link as a tool to check in between calls. But because reps have access to all available offers, I'd do the actual PC through the rep.

@isasso71- Thanks for the link. Had it on old phone and lost it.

@Everyone- I just clicked the link and got upgraded from an annual fee QS1 with 23.?% app to no annual fee QS with 18.99%.

Even though I've read of others getting the annual fee dropped on a C1 PC, it's the first time I've personally seen it. Surprised at both the annual fee being dropped and the app reduction, the latter of which wasn't listed anywhere but is already showing on my account.
