Bank of America Cash Rewards as Visa Signature?

Hey guys,

Does anyone know if the Bank of America Cash Rewards card comes as a Visa Signature card? I have the card as a Visa card but I really like some of the Signature features. When I tried to call them the customer rep said the the Visa Signature of that card is the Premium Rewards card. I didn't think that was true because I've seen the Cash Rewards as a Signature card before.

I think they switched to the MC network for the Cash Rewards at some point this year. You only see the MC version on their website now.

Premium Rewards and Travel Rewards are still issued in Visa Sig though.

Ah I see, so I'm guessing I'll probably never get upgraded to the Signature card. Shouldv'e done it when I had the chance haha.

I suggest calling Bank of America and asking if they would upgrade it to Visa Signature. I have the version that is available through college alumni associations; it started out as a Platinum card and I requested an upgrade to Visa Signature on 3/26/18. If I'm recalling correctly my call was bounced around three different BoA calling centers but the upgrade was approved and I got the new card about a week later.

FWIW I have the Cash Rewards card with a $15k CL and it is NOT a Signature - I actually thought it was, although I don't care because I never use the "Signature" benefits and if I did need them I have a wallet full of Signature cards.

I checked my wife's Cash Rewards Card with an $18k CL and hers IS a Signature version. - She got hers about a year after I did, maybe that's the difference? Obviously, BoA does issue Cash Rewards cards in a Signature version.

You can call and ask for an upgrade to VS. Just be careful when they read you the disclosures because they might try to sneak in an annual fee - even for a card that's not supposed to have one - when you try to get the card upgraded to VS.
Earlier in the year, I asked for the VS upgrade on my 3-2-1 card once I got a decent CLI. The rep said no problem, and she started reading some disclosures. Then, she finally added that the annual fee would be $95. Of course, I declined after an amicable disagreement.

I've also read that BofA will change your card network upon request, but I have no experience with that.

That's exactly what they tried to do. I asked the rep if I can be upgraded and she said sure, but there's a $95 fee. When I asked why there is a fee for something like that, she said the Visa Signature version of the card has a fee. After asking a few more questions she finally mentioned that by the Signature version of the Cash Rewards card she meant the Premieum Rewards card. I declined and said I'll call back later.

That's convenient

I'm pretty sure she was trying to tack on a fee on your current card - and not offer a product change to the Premium Rewards card. I was told that the VS upgrade would come with a fee. I declined after exchanging some arguments. Basically, I wasn't going to pay $95 for a card that has no AF.

Seems like pushing you towards a fee is a common tactic of theirs haha.

If I were a bank, I would also try to add a $95 fee for those trying to upgrade to signature....!

I thought the Signature cards come with rental car damage waiver protection. I couldn't find that anywhere on my account for my current Visa card.

Most prime bank cards (MC/V/AEx) offer secondary car rental coverage a few offer primary coverage - by prime, I'm excluding sub-prime and starter cards such as secured versions, Credit One, First Premier and their clones and low credit limit plus AF type MC/V cards. You need to read the fine print to see what is included for a specific card (try going to the online application for your specific card and you'll see terms and benefits)

My suggestion is to keep calling them until you land on someone who knows how to do it for a “no-fee upgrade”. Be prepared to be bounced around multiple times though.

I did exactly just that when I upgraded my Cash Rewards Visa to a Siggy one. It took me about 4 calls and several transfers when someone knowledgeable took a look at my account and said, “Your account has to have at least $5K CL... Oh wait you do have more than that! Congratulations you qualify for the upgrade give me juat a few minutes while I....”

Both my cash rewards card were upgraded to signature cards last year. I called up and got a rep who was really helpful. Upgrade took a few weeks happen.

After I heard they were doing soft pull increases, I requested a CLI on my Visa cash rewards card to $15k. It was granted. A couiple of weeks later I received a letter referring to my "Cash Rewards Visa Signature" card and that's what it says on my account when I log in to the BoA site. I should have paid more attention to it but quite honestly I didn't give it a second thought until I saw this thread.

I can't find the thread right now (mobile) but I did post one a few months ago about "upgrading" my BOA 123 card to VISA Signature. Ultimately it took 3 or 4 calls to CS before I finally got someone who knew what the hell they where doing. I was able to upgrade without a fee and was issued a new card (same number and expiration date) that has a Signature logo on it. I still just use it for 3% back on gas.
