Citi DC APR Reduction New Account

Hi All,

So I was just approved for the Citi DC card last week and just activated the card a couple of days ago and finally got around to setting up the app and my online login. I haven't made any purchases yet, but should be doing so later this week. I don't carry a balance and always pay in full but I like having low APRs on my cards while not as bad as my JetBlue card the APR I was approved for was a little high at 21.24%. So I used the chat feature and asked for an APR reduction and was granted one immediatley it went down to 19.74% so not a huge drop but a little dip. I wasn't expecting anything, but I was pleasantly surprised! Good start with citi so far and I plan on making this a daily driver in the future. Just thought I'd share this.

I have this card, and I'm currently getting 23.24%. I'm thinking of asking for a rate reduction as well, as I have had this card for a year already. Is your rate reduction permanent, or is it just for temporary amount of time?

Suprised they would lower it for you while on a 0 % apr that you should be on with the card usually card issuers can't do this while on 0% promo..

I don't believe I have the 0% APR offer becuase I got the $100 SUB. I may be wrong but I don't believe I have the 0% offer.

Also I did just ask "I was wondering if it would be possible to lower the APR on my card?" The person then said please wait while I review your request and then said he could lower it and if I would like to accept the lower APR.

I used the chat feature again to try and push my luck and I once again got my APR lowered! Now it's 17.74% not bad for just asking.

Keep going! I went from 24.49% on my aa platinum to 14.49% in a month using the chat feature.

I just asked to see if I could get a rate reduction, and this is what the Citi Chat rep said to me: "I apologize to inform you that currently there are no offers available on the card to reduce the APR on your card."

I wonder if it's because I got a CLI yesterday.

I was able to get mine reduced from 25% to 20% a week ago. They said i could call in a few months for more. At first they offered me 2% down, but i asked for more. They checked my heavy usage and she talked to a supervisor and they gave me 5% down.

Been flooded with Citi offers the past few months.. Best APR I had seen on DC was 19.99.. Random one just came in at 15.99% with $100 SUB and 18 months 0% and I jumped at it.. Approved $6500!

This post inspired me to try on my two DC cards. (Why two? One was a PC from a DP - using for purchases. The other is still in an intro BT rate period so it’s SDed for now.)

One card was at 18.99% and I got it down to 16.24% in 2 days. On day 3 they told me I had no more offers.

The other was at 23.74% and after 3 days I’m down to 18.99%. I’m gonna keep trying until they tell me no. Hopefully I can get them to match the other card. Only 2.75% to go!

They’ve given me some sweet CLIs on these cards over time as well. Good to feel the luv from Citi. Thanks for the post or I’d have never tried this. Just don’t understand why they don’t just do it in one try.

I don’t plan on carrying a balance but you never know what emergencies will come up.

Oh and for what it’s worth, I did this all thru chat.

FWIW, I tried to get the 18.99% card lowered again literally an hour later and now it’s 17.99%. So 3% in one day from 2 chats, 5.75% in 3 days from 4 chats. Thanks, Citi!

Make sure you get it in writing. I got mine reduced last year all 4 times I requested it to 14.74%. I keep track of this in an Excel file. However, when I got an offer of 1.99% for 6 mos, I noted in the paperwork they said my interest rate was 16.74%.

Unfortunately, I have absolutely no letters from them about the 4 decreases. My fault. In the duture, I will request confirmation.
