I've been going through my profile and AF for Cap one is coming up. It was my second card during my rebuilding phase. It had the credit steps. Started off with a $300 cl -> $400 -> $700 and finally $1250 (They have refused to increase despite many requests).

I have many cards that have way better benefits that I just couldn't justify the $39 AF for this card.

Next step is to figure out whatother cards I have with AF are of no more use to me...

Congrats on kicking the Capital One bucket - no one should pay an AF for a low limit rebuilder card once the door opens to better cards. I'm amazed at how many hold on to these cards and continue paying the AF year after year. Looking at your signature card(s) list, you have obviously moved on - good job

No need to axe Capital One. They are one of my best issuers. If you are building credit and have an annual fee card, that isn’t a reason to axe the issuer. Granted, I am way past the credit building process and never had a card with an annual fee even when I got my first credit card. To be honest, credit issuers usually extend credit without annual fees quite easily even if you have no credit score, such as being a college student and having a bank account and some income coming in. I never understood why people had secured or annual fee based cards to build credit. I can understand why they would be used when someone has poor credit however such as chargeoffs and late payments and the like.

I'm also getting to the end of my Capital One patience... I've applied for two of their products, and now have six due to bank buy outs... at least one more on the horizon (walmart) and very possibly two... (nationwide).

Once upon a time, they grew nicely, but have been stagnant for years... it might just be time to move on.

I think the OP was a little impatient and went about it the wrong way. Instead of axing the card, they should have PC'd it to a Quicksilver without the AF, then possible asked for an increase at a later date. Capital One will only grant an increase every 6 months so OP closed the card with Cap One for nothing in my opinion but if they are okay with that then there is nothing else to discuss.

Congrats OP!
