OP, while some outcomes can leave anyone scratching their head there's really no point or advantage in investing any energy in trying to figure them out.

Just do what you normally do and Discover will eventually provide some growth. It's all about algorithms, you won't be able to crack them, unfortunately.

Optionally, you can combine your Discover accounts when the CLI opportunity presents itself, if you desire.

The limit for my first discover card hadn't moved above $4,300 CL for about a year. Finally 4 months ago out of frustration I apped for a new discover and was instantly approved for a $16,000 starting line. Since then I have received a $500 and a $4,000 CLI on that card, but still no movement on the first card despite hitting the love button every couple of weeks. This morning I get an email from Discover that "Due to my overall excellent credit management" they are raising the limit by $1,700 to $6,000. This after being turned down again about a week ago!

Can someone please tell me how Discover figures this stuff out. I'm baffled.

I got my first Discover IT in March 2017 at $2,500 SL. By last December I'd increased the line to $4,500, but it was stuck there for six months, while I went and got another Discover IT this March with a $5,000 SL. And then in late June I got a $500 CLI on the new card to bring it to $5,500 - and last month, a $300 CLI on the older card to make it $4,800.

They're hard to figure out, all right. I just want to get to next March and then have a CLI available on either card so I can have the two combined (I just BT'ed the older one to another card).
