August Starwood Preferred Guest Statements

So it's been a few days since my SPG statement period closed, and I've been anxiously awaiting the PDF to become available so that I could see how the new points were awarded and I have to say that this is quite convoluted. I had $1725 in Marriott spend for the month, so that does seem to be reflected in the 2x points for "Adjustment SPG and Marriott Points" line, which I assume got tripled in that adjustment points line. The "Double Points Bonus" line also seems to reflect the same $1725, though.

Since it's a mixture of "old SPG card earnings" and "new SPG card earnings" and there is no breakdown of points earned on the charges I think this is a mess, and not at all the clear statements I am used to receiving with this card! Eyeballing the new points earned looks about right since I would have expected a bit over 10k Starpoints, which were converted to "Points" on August 1st, so 31,206 is probably correct. I find it interesting that the Year to Date earnings are still reflected in Starpoints, not Points. They really should have tripled those to make it apples-to-apples with the new points it is earning since I really did earn a lot more than what is shown when converted to Marriott points.

Am I the only one that thinks this is just not very transparent? Anyone else get their August statement yet? In other news, I know there will be "a delay" in points being awarded this month, but I wonder just how soon after this Saturday (when the loyalty program merge is supposed to be completed) those will appear?

Edit: Okay, I forgot about the Sheraton stay last weekend. That was $220, so 2x on all purchases + 4x points bonus for Starwood/Marriott spend after August 1st explains the "SPG and Marriott 880" line.

K, my August statement just cut after a few days and it looks like a mess as well. The points it is showing that I earned are seemingly in between what I would have earned off of the old structure before transferring, and what I should have earned if they were to actually give the 3-1 conversion rate.

@chaos51 Thanks for the reply. That should be the case if the statement began prior to August but closed in August. Converting Starpoints to the new "Points," the card previously earned 3 points per dollar spent, with 3 bonus points for each dollar spent at Starwood, Marriott, and Ritz-Carlton properties. For charges that posted on or after August 1st, that was reduced to 2 points per dollar spent, but with 4 bonus points for Starriott-Carlton spend (effectively the same as before).

I got 9k Marriott points from my spending on my personal in the current statement.

Then I opened my business up and saw I had 22k Marriott points and was like wow. Then I saw I had a member get member bonus. I posted my referral link on DOC and someone must have used it. That is a very nice suprise. So 31k points in one month without even a sign-up bonus. Pretty sweet.

I wonder when all these points will post.

@Anonymous that is a nice surprise! I'm assuming that the points will likely post soon after tomorrow when the official merging takes place. Maybe Monday? I think it may still be a bit of a mess with the points being only visible in the Starwood account until we're able to merge our actual Marriott/Ritz-Carlton and Starwood account numbers together. I really hope that ability starts tomorrow.

Edit: Also, were your statements fairly straightforward, or a jumbled mess like mine above?

I think yours is more complex as it looks like you stayed at Marriotts and got some bonus for that. I didn't charge anything in August on the Personal and nothing in July for the business so I think mine is straight forward. For personal just lists points earned on purchases and an adjustment points which 2x the purchase points.

This might be why mine looks the same as yours K. We had a stay at a Sheraton hotel in Tampa during that cycle.

Yeah, I had 13 paid Marriott nights (only 5 nights for my own room) prior to August 1st and 1 paid Starwood night after August 1st.

Certain lines make sense, but others I can't quite figure out. My spend during the statement was right at $9,000 so the "Total Points Earned" line for Current Period makes sense being 31,206 if we triple the points and consider that there was $2k in Starriott-Carlton spend. (Would have been about 11k Starpoints in days past, which works out to 33k Marriott and then we take away a little since everyday spend went from 3x to 2x essentially on August 1st.) However the "Points Earned for Eligible Purchases" is a mess because that 10,491 is a mixture of mostly much more valuable Starpoints and new Points with no adjustment on this line.

The "SPG and Marriott" line is absolutely the $220 Sheraton charge x4 in the new points system.

"Double Points Bonus" is the same as the Marriott charges and "Adjustments SPG and Marriott Points" is exactly twice that amount; not sure what's old points and what's new points in there.

"Adjustment Points" is quite vague. The only thing I can guess is that this is the extra 2 points in the 1:3 conversion for the non-Marriott spend during July (which would work out to like $7,330).

A nice clear explanation of July charges by themselves, then a middle section with converted rates, and an ending section with August charges by themselves would have made this much clearer. And YTD I also think should have been tripled from previous statement periods.

This wait to see if they mess up my points is killing me lol. They've already changed my status from Gold Elite to Platinum Elite, the points that I had in my SPG account have tripled, but the points I earned from SPG card spend are not posting still.

Not yet. My old SPG number still shows in my Amex account, but my accounts were merged to a new SPG number. I am still sitting at Platinum for the time being, but DW got demoted back down to Gold. (See discussion last 2 pages of Garden thread.)

I contacted Amex yesterday about my missing SPG points for August and they sent them to SPG/Marriott on August 10th. So holdup is on Marriott end.

Same issue here. Was Platinum Elite for a couple of days then went back to Gold Elite. SPG/Marriott merged. Log into Marriott or SPG and both have my old Marriott rewards number attached. Amex has told me that I should have an 11 digit number but all I can find is just my regular 9 digit Marriott number.

Points have tripled but my points from August SPG statement haven't posted. Was able to log into Marriott/SPG until this morning, now I get a processing error. Was at Gaylord Opryland over the weekend and that stay hasn't posted yet.

This has been a cluster and it's really starting to wear thin. A company as large as Marriott should have done a lot of this testing behind the scenes before unleashing this heap on the general public. Ugh!

Yeah how hard is it to merge them? They were working fine before with the ability to transfer points seemlessly between accounts. This is day 5 and no one can log in? I would say this is has been quite the failure so far. Hopefully they get something straightened out soon.

I've been waiting two days for my August statement to be available, and it just posted now. The section at the end of the statement that normally shows the current month's SPG Starpoints Earned is missing. Also, at the top of the statement in the small box that says Starpoints earned this period, instead of a Starpoint amount it says "To view your Points balance, visit spg.com."

I logged into my SPG account and it doesn't show my August points posted yet and AMEX still shows my old SPG prior to get the new number for my combined accounts. I'll probably wait a day or two before contacting AMEX or SPG.

I am sure calling Marriott will not be a pleasant experience as I am sure everyone and their grandmother is calling in right now. Since I have 33k points for August I am little worried about them losing them in the shuffle.
