AMEX PRG Airline Reimbursement question.

Considering getting a PRG and have a question. I assume that Southwest is one of the airlines available to choose? And is adding the Early Bird Check-in included in what is reimbursible? Would make it almost automatic if it were.

Thank you Irish, I thorougly enjoyed the game last night. Instant approval, and very easy to get info to use immediately. Next stupid question, am I going to earn MR points or count towards the SUB buying EBCI then having it credited back?

I have seen people suggest buying a gift certificate for $100. Not sure if that works or if Amex just looks for airline charge.

My selected airline is Delta. I have luck buying $50 gift cards from the site to get them reimbursed. Definitely do the research on your airline of choice.

You will earn 5 MRs per dollar on the charge and it should count toward your spend. A day or two after the charge is final you will see an airline credit for that amount up to $100.

You can get a 100 dollar gift card from Southwest. The gift cards cant be used for early bird check in but can be used for tickets and taxes on award tickets.

I believe he's confusing the Platinum card with 5X points on arline purchases with the PRG's 3X MR points.

just bought $200 from delta (directly through their site) using the Amex platinum. then upon reading the fine print it says not eligible on gift cards.

I believe the consensus is that what the fine print says isn't how it is generally applied for those three airlines. That said you have no recourse if it doesn't work since it is spelled out that it shouldn't.

Delta gift cards have worked for my PRG and Platinum but only at $50 increments. Southwest and American have worked at $100.

FlyerTalk really is the best source of info on this... they have threads with up-to-date info for each of the airlines if I'm not mistaken. (Unfortunately we can't link to them from here.)

I do know that some have said that you need to be on a computer for Delta (not sure about the others), since if you're on mobile they go through a vendor that codes differently.

As it's already been mentioned, if by some chance it doesn't work you have no recourse at all since it's not supposed to work anyway.

I’m on mobile for this forum but did buy the gc on a computer. Will report back if anything happens.
If not, will try the increment thing if it doesn’t work.

Did you set your Airline to Delta in your settings? In order to be eligible, you have to designate what airline you're using.

Also, it is very much YMMV situation. It all depends on how the airline codes the purchase.

The last time I read the Delta FT GC thread is when I bought Delta GC’s.

It had to be done on a computer, bought in $50 increments. You could buy $200 in a single transaction but it had to be separate $50 GC’s.

It’s not supposed to work, but it does because of the lack of a separate MCC for baggage fees etc .

I’ve bought and gotten credit for Delta GC’s , American GC, a cheap delta flight and a cheap JetBlue flight.

My experience and I am a military churner, so I have them ALL (and so does my wife).

Southwest - any amount including $250 on Hilton

Delta - $50 increments

American Airlines - $100, but even that's hit or miss...I was the proud owner of a couple $100 gift cards..sold them on Raise.com...with the 5x points, and Schwab card only lost maybe 10% (old Raise.com fee structure).

United - Travelbank used to work. Sometimes random small amounts for United work for tax....it's hit or miss, may just surprise you.

As always YMMV and it's not a benefit so if you take the risk and lose, you now own a gift card.

Yes, delta was designed and assigned.
Not the end of the world if the $200 transaction doesn’t get credited as we fly Delta a lot. Will just use that for a future flight and will try the $50 increments. Thanks everyone!
