Question regarding hotel status with amex platinum

Hey everyone, something just crossed my mind and I figured someone here might have an answer for me. With the Amex Platinum card I know you get Elite Status and hotels like the Marriot, Hilton, Starwood, etc.... I was wondering how long those last. Is it only for a year or is it as long as you have the card? I was hoping someone with experience with this can answer this for me. Thanks!

Yes, as long you have the Amex Platinum.

And with the new Marriott combined program we have essentially been given a downgrade. We still retain Gold status in the new combined program but lose free breakfasts (which add up at a hotel).

Which is why I never eat at Hotels. Honestly, for the basi price they charge, a free breakfast isn't going to break the bank is it?

Especially if all there is is some fruit, packaged pastry, cold cereal etc. I don't mind paying extra for resturaunt style spread, but $15-20?

$10 is my max for Breakfast, and half the time it's just a donut and coffee in my room before heading out. Dinner is where I splurge when traveling, sometimes even lunch.
