How would it work if I were to use a CC with Western Union?

If I wanted to send a money transfer and used a CC how would that work? Would it be just like buying something off the net and the payment wil be posted on my card or?

I'm thinking a cash advance (which is ugly, expensive, and dangerous), but I will defer to those who have more experience in this area.

Are cash advance fees treated different? You say its ugly and dangerous, I'm assumming I simply can't pay that amount before the due date to avoid interest?

It works just like any other POS transaction. It is not applied as a cash advance. The total will include the WU fees and will appear as "Western Union".

WOW....This surprises me. I would have sworn it would post as cash advance. If true, it would be a huge loophole costing CCCs tons in cash advance charges

I was looking at the site and got this

So how do I go about finding out if it would work as any other transaction or would be seen as a cash advance? Would I have to call the credit card company (cap 1) ?

The one time I sent money to somebody by Western Union it looked like any other purchase on the credit card. But this is NOT a cheap way to get cash from a credit card, it cost more than a small cash advance would have cost. I did it because my bank would have charged even more for a wire transfer.

I've done this twice, once it was a cash advance and once it wasn't. Be careful.

Jeepers! . . . I've used it several times to send money to my daughter for one emergency or another. Let's see . . . I've used Discover and Chase for sure. Not sure what (if any), others. I don't have Cap 1 so I can't speak to their policy. I susppose a call to Cap 1 would be in order.

Well, I've only done it once, but if I need to again I suppose I'll use a debit card instead of a CC so as not to risk a cash advance fee on top of the Western Union fee.

I use western union when something needs to be done RIGHT HERE AND NOW>>>>

Its not cheap cause western union will charge you a fee to send the money and then ALSO YOUR CC will treat it as a CASH ADVANCE>>>>>>

When I am forced to use western union (usually a lack of planning on whom I am assisting), I always use my junk CC like orchard.
In today's times its not advisable to use your prime cards for "CASH ADVANCE" as it will show you are desperate for money and could qualify for a CLD>.....
