IMO, I believe most FIs tend to evaluate or take that relationship into consideration, but it depends on the actual lender. It's not necessarily a "shoe-in" for a guaranteed approval since lenders are still going to review your overall profile.

In some cases it can be a determining factor given internal behavioral scores and exposure across affiliates or existing products, for instance.

and its closed.. Another one bites the dust..

Rep was shocked that I was closing the card, and I told em the reason for closure was the growth of the card. She asked me how much CL was my highest and I told her 15K and she was just shocked that I wasn't taken cared of by them as they helped me with my credit when I started with a FICO score of a 588. I started as a secured card from them and built my credit back up.

Back to the original question. I don't think it matters much for you to have an open card. And having a high limit on one card might get you declined on another card if you are at their maximum exposure. You can always lower the limit on a current card before applying for a new one if you don't want to cancel.

@Anonymous wrote:

@Anonymous wrote:

I'm in the same boat with citi...I have a DC WEMC and a Costco VISA Signature and there's really nothing else in their arsenal that would be useful to me.

Citi Thank You Premier has a 60k signup bonus. You can use that for hotels, airfare or gift cards. Seems pretty much a no brainer for anyone who doesn't have one. 600 dollars at a minimum.
