25% CLI fee? What a great incentive to never get that card. AF and a Monthly Fee? Two more great incentives to never get that card. When my scores were in the 500's I used secured cards with no AF. At least when I closed them (or before if they made the acount unsecured) I got my money back.

There is a difference between desperate and crazy, and I think First Premier just found the line between them.

So I shredded my First Premier Bank cc a few months ago because I never use it - It was a good option when my scores were in the mid 500s, but no more.

$35 AF, $6 monthly fee, 25% CLI fee and 36% APR, all wrapped in a flimsy, hideously looking orange card.

Called to cancel today, one month before AF hits. Got all fees waived for a year and a $500 CLI with the 25% fee waived. They're also sending me a new non-shredded one for free. I'll keep it in my trunk with my spare tire as an emergency 'left-my-wallet-at-home' card and utilization filler for now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

After year two, they slap on a $6 monthly fee. But my favorite is the 25% fee. "We appreciate your business and would like to reward you with a $200 CLI for a small fee of $50."

Lesson learned. If you have $200 in your bank account for a Disco or Cap1 secured, there are no good reasons to get a First Premier card. My hesitation with the secured cards was I didn't want money locked up in my oldest accounts if they were to never graduate. Disco and Cap1 have since both graduated my cards, and FBP along with Credit One are the only vulture cards I have left.

I'm calling Credit One next month to close. I'll see what they counteroffer.

1Definitely cancel this card it’s so expensive! I currently have this card. I’m at 71% util overall with a 0 balance on this card, but I can’t close it until I get util to 8%. I’m tempted to call and cancel to see if they will at least waive the fees. You have a better deal than I do. I have a $12 fee per month with no balance. Smh 🤭

Smh 🤭

What's your SL on the card and what's your total limit across all accounts?

Unless it makes up a big percentage of your total limit, it's not going to make a big impact on your utilization. I wanted my util. below 30% when canceling, but I wasn't going to pay an annual fee on a card I don't need for a 2% difference in util. I would call to cancel, more than likely they will counteroffer with a fee waiver and a CLI. It's a win win. If you get your fees waived and a CLI, it'll help your utilization and you won't be throwing money away at them. If they don't counteroffer, you're better off with one less vulture circling around you.

My $0.02.

So let's the say the FPB card is $800, that makes your total credit limit $19,200. You could cancel the FPB card and your util would be 74% - A difference of 3%.
