Chase and AMEX tend not to like thin files (accounts with Less then a year of history) ...

I would honestly wait til your just over the year mark with your histrory before you go for those 2 to increase your chances ...

Capital One is a little more forgiving in this area.... If any of those cards interest you

In my humble opinion, I would apply for a Capital One Platinum card. If they turn you down, then I would use the money Discover refunded you and apply for a secured Captial One Card. Capital One is a great starter card, however, you will be bucket limited, meaning you will never grow the credit line into a large amount.

As you can see on my signature line, Captial One is my starter card.

I agree.... Check the prequal sites and if no offers show I would just sit tight and continue doing what your doing and revisit applying once your history is a bit longer....(Unless you find a Capital One card you like)

Your obviously doing a good job if discover graduated you in 7 months ....

Chase is a jealous CCC, if you have more than 5 new CC in a running 24 month period Chase will deny your application. There are exceptions with the co-branded cards, just be aware.

OP—First, if you just had a Discover graduate and you’ve got a whole 7 months of credit history in your rear view mirror, you should focus on 5-6 months of responsible usage and on-time payments. That will open doors to unsecured and hopefully non subprime cards. Otherwise, you could accumulate any of the many secured cards available if you are in that big of a hurry. Perhaps become a member of a CU if you aren’t already, and seek one of the CU credit cards since those aren’t subprime.

Secondly, the people here are very friendly and will bend over backwards to give you advice. Many times at the expense of their own hard learned lessons. If anyone suggests to you that you are going about posting in an inappropriate way or in violation of TOS or any other forum rules, it is done so as a friendly reminder. We all forget from time to time and try and help each other out. Do not let your zeal and eagerness to achieve your goals get in the way of common courtesy and respect.

Best of luck in your journey and for any question you pose, the more data points about you and your credit that you are willing to provide the more accurate the advice is likely to be.

it really depends on your needs and spending habits. the two cards you mentioned have really high annual fees so would the card benefits be worth the hefty fee?

if you're only trying to boost your credit score then you should get a card with no annual fee and pay the balance in full every month

edit: saw your other post and your profile is too thin for Chase and AMEX, you will most likely get declined. i would go with the Quicksilver from Capital One

@Anonymous wrote:

Hey guys I just made a post similar to this one so I apologize in advance but I couldn't get a clear answer,

My first credit card Discover just graduated after 7 months and my credit score is now showing to be 730

Im looking for a new card to get. What is the recommened card i want to make my credit score higher, more CL, and just overall better.

From what i understand this journey should lead to Chase Sapphire or Amex Plantinum and above

Thank you

Congrats!!

Which bureau is the 730? Experian, Equifax, Transunion or across all three? Also, is it your FICO score or 'FAKO' (VantageScore - CreditKarma, Credit Sesame etc.?)

If you want to get in with Chase, don't do what I (and many here) have done and app for a lot of cards. Chase has a 5/24 rule. Essentially, if you have opened five or more accounts within the last 24 months, you will be denied, regardless of your credit score. You might want to check out Capital One for pre-qualified offers. Capital One is great for both rewards as well as for growing your credit. Cap 1 pulls all three bureaus in my experience.

Also, next on my list personally is the PayPal 2% Cashback Mastercard from Synchrony. It seems fairly easy to get, and from what I know, they are very generous with CLIs. Synchrony pulls Transunion.

With Amex I would wait for a pre-qualified offer from their website. They pull Experian only.
