Cards that work for Walmart Supercenters?

What credit cards can earn cashback or rewards at Walmart Supercenters? Besides the Walmart Credit card

Does the BoA Cash Rewards earn 2% cashback? what about Amex BCE/BCP, Cap1 S?

For me, all walmart locations I have tried gives the baseline (1%) on Amex BCE.
Back "in the day" when I had Sallie Mae (MC) some walmarts would code as grocery and would get the extra cash back. YEMV

AMEX specifically mentions Walmart as not counting for grocery/supermarket spending. You may get lucky with the merchant coding for your particular Walmart but for the most part it'll not count. I do believe the BofA Cash Rewards counts for 2% because of the Visa network as an option, dunno about the Savor. But honestly if you really want to shop at Walmart (not online) you're probably better off using a generic 2% cashback card like the Citi DC for example for shopping there. Occasionally Discover and Chase will do quarterly categories for 5% there (warehouse for Disco and Chase Pay through the Walmart app) but for those other times it's not in play better using a 2% card.

WM supercenters code as "discount stores" most of the time. I'm not aware of any cards that have discount stores as a bonus category. Cards that have a grocery category generally don't have that category apply to supercenters, especially not Amex cards. Your best bet is probably gonna be a 2% card of some sort.

Chase Freedom actually did have Walmart as the Q4 category last year, and you'll be able to get 5x in a roundabout way this year (load CF into Chase Pay, link Chase Pay to Walmart Pay, and pay with WMP.

But even the Walmart card only gets 1% in-store! You have to either order online or wait for one of the 3% Walmart Pay promos to get a decent rate.

This is a common question and is one that is difficult to answer since for whatever reason all of the merchant accounts aren't set up the same nationwide. If it's listed with Visa, Amex, Discover, or MasterCard as a grocery store, it'll get any grocery bonus. But they should be listed as "5310 Discount Stores/Warehouse/Wholesale" on the Visa network. If you live in an area where you have multiple Walmart locations, you can try the VISA Supplier Locator to find the MCC codes of each location: https://www.visa.com/supplierlocator-app/app/#/home/supplier-locator

For instance, there are none here in Boston but I know that there's one down in Quincy so I did that as my location:

Scrolling down, we can see that the store in Weymouth is incorrectly coded as a grocery store. Hope that helps!

Hummmm I believe 'twas a USB Cash+ that I used.

Perhaps I better dig deeper into this..

If that's the case- that would be very nice..

I didn't investigate the rewards at all because I did a naughty and ASSUMED..

I don't think that has been a Cash+ category. (I used to get 5% off my vet as it coded as Charity, but that's no longer a category on the card).

Would the AKC Visa would give 3% for Pets and Supplies?

Nope I've tested it and my Amex BCE and Everyday cards always code my local Walmart as "discount store". For Visa check the link that K in Boston posted to see how Walmarts codes in your area: https://www.visa.com/supplierlocator-app/app/#/home/supplier-locator

When I checked that every Walmart in southern AZ codes as grocery, my BoA Cash Rewards & Cap One Savor give me 2% as a grocery, whether a super center or not. That may be because Tucson has a ban on "big box" stores, within Tucson city limits there are only "Walmart Neighborhood Markets" which are smaller and grocery only. For Mastercard Barclays also codes my Walmart as grocery, and even Family Dollar as grocery, but I tested my Savor and Family Dollar coded as "merchandise" for only 1%.

Guess I should have been more specific in that Walmart "Neighborhood" stores code as grocery (and even then it's YMMV) with everything else coding as otherwise. Long story short with the rare exception don't use the BCE/BCP at a Walmart.

Your best bet is a flat 2% card. You won't have to worry about coding inconsistencies that way. The cards I'm aware of that give more than 2% on grocery (i.e. Amex BCE) never give Walmart as a bonus. So if you are going to get 2% (maybe) on another card, may as well just use a flat 2% and be guaranteed.

I had the same question a while ago and I'm still looking for a good card for walmart. BoA and cap1 code as groceries but I'm looking for something better, preferably without a quarterly cap. Haven't found anything so far, may have to settle with a 2% card.

So you guys do get 2% with your BoA Cash & Cap1 Savor at Walmart or other Grocery stores? Are your cards MasterCards or Visa?

My Local Walmart Supercenter MCC codes as "GROCERY STORES/ SUPERMARKETS/ BAKERIES - 5411" on the Visa Supplier Locator Site. and my UsBank Cash+ Visa does get 2% at this Walmart (just earned $2.45 out of $122.29 the other day) and other Grocery stores. But would like to use the Cash+ 2% on Restaurants and PC my BankAmericard to the Cash Rewards to use the 2% at Walmart or other Grocery stores.

Yes can use my 5% Freedom with Walmart and Chase Pay on Q4

Yeah the Citi DC or PayPal CB Flat 2% would be the best but would need to wait to get 2 more Chase cards to pass the 5/24 rule

From my research MasterCard and Visa code most Walmarts as groceries.
My BoA is Visa, cap1 is MasterCard

I use my US Bank Altitude Reserve on Samsung pay and get 3% that redeems for travel at 4 1/2%. This card works for just about all my spend and essentially get 4 1/2% back on everything except for gas and restraunts since I only redeem for travel. Highly recommend this card.

No limits, and really easy redemption.$400 annual fee but $325 travel credit and a bunch of other benefits that have this a free card for me.
