I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I worked for U.S. Bank for around a year and a half as a Solutions (Supervisor) rep for Cardmember Service. If you have any questions about policies/procedures/products feel free to ask!

Perfect and welcome. Here’s your first question: I’ve had a HD (Harley Davidson) US Bank visa card for a few years. I’d like to PC for something else, but upon calling the number on the back, the CSR states that they can’t as they are a dedicated HD visa line. Would it be possible to PC that card for something else? Thank you.

How do existing banking relationships weigh in regards to a card app or CLI? Many people complain about a $500 SL. Would an existing relationship alleviate that, and what would a relationship have to be, minimum? $300 parked savings account? Checking and savings?

Sleekride, for product changes you'll need to call Cardmember Service - 800-285-8585. Any representative will be able to access your account, but not every rep will be trained for the HD product line. Unfortunately for your particular product the only product change you can do is between the 3 different types of Harley Davidson products.

Brian_Earl_Spilner, 1.) I wouldn't recommend a US Bank card if you don't have existing accounts with the bank. I've seen 820 FICO scores approved with a STL of $500 solely because they didn't have any existing relationships with us.

2.) US Bank previously had a downsell (what we would approve you for in the event you didn't qualify for the Signature product) Cash+ Visa Platinum Card, but that has since been discontinued. I don't know the exact qualifications, but I would recommend at least a 600 FICO, (I've seen a 580 approved, but with extensive credit history) few inquiries (US Bank won't touch you if you have several)

Definitely do not need a 700 FICO to be approved for the product.

What you do need a 700 FICO for is fee reversals (unless you speak with a Solutions rep), promotional APRs (for a duration of 6 months), and in most cases line increases. Sadly the system used will automatically decline you a CLI if you're under a 700 FICO (and yes, representatives readily have access to your FICO score) or if you've submitted a request within a 6 month duration.

Two questions

I use USB as my main bank and Investments.

1. What’s the most effective way to get a product change. I want to convert my FlexPerks Visa Travel rewards to a Cash +
The card is over a year old but they won’t convert it but waived the annual fee.

2.
I have a joint Altitude Reserve account. My fiancé never uses the account or her card.

The annual fee is coming up in 2 months and I don’t see the point in paying $75 for the additional card fee when she never uses it and doesn’t get a single benefit out of it.
Anyway to remove her from the account so it’s an individual account ?
If that’s not possible, best way to go about getting an Annual fee waiver for the $75. I have no problem paying the $400 for the card itself. I would even return her card if they waived the $75.

Civil, I definitely wouldn't rely on the information provided in the prequalification tool.

Shadowfactor, 1.) Contacting Cardmember Service would be your best bet. When a representative accesses your account, they'll be able to tell you immediately if you're eligible for a product change. Considering you've already been approved for a FlexPerks Travel Visa Signature, you're most likely eligible for a product conversion. In all honesty, represensatives are not supposed to waive annual fees under any circumstance. They can redeem 3500 Flexpoints towards that annual fee, but to waive it completely isn't common. If the representative you speak with doesn't have anything available, unfortunately you'll need to wait for a semi-annual account review.

2.) As you know there's a dedicated line for Altitude customers. After all, that's the high end product USB offers and you're very valuable to the company because you're expected to be a high spender. That being said, reps are a little more lenient with your account than they would be others. I would call the Altitude Reserve line an explain your situation, but immediately ask to speak with Solutions. In some rare cases, they'll remove a co-applicant. In 99% of other cases, they won't remove an applicant/coapplicant from an account without a divorce decree specifying one of you is no longer liable for the account.

RicHowe, you are always more than welcome to speak with Underwriting and a rep will manually review a higher CLI option upon your request.

PinkandGrey, US Bank reports the current balance owed every 30 days - generally updates between the 30th and the 5th of every month. Occasionally, in months such as February reporting will happen on the 27th/28th.

Thats when I was told they didnt have any FlexPerks PC options but he could give me 3500 points to use to redeem for the AF.

When do they do the Semi- Annual reviews ? Im hoping to get a product change as I hardly ever use the FlexPerks card now that I have the Altitude.

I'll have to give them a call.

If they wont remove her, and wont waive the AF.

Would it be possible to close the account and reopen a new account the next day with just my name ? Or do I need to wait a longer period of time ?

Thanks

Ah, satisfaction rewards. Yes, annual fees are not able to be waived (unless it's a business account), but a common work-around is to grant satisfaction rewards that can be redeemed towards the annual fee at the end of the next billing cycle. The Altitude line can handle any credit account you have - I would go through them going forward. You'll be treated like royalty compared to the regular CMS.

Reviews happen randomly based on when you initially opened the account. When was the last time you called regarding a product change? The unfortunate part about your situation is a lot of reps at USB don't know what they're doing. Hell, training is only 5 weeks and that's learning the basics of the system used, not the procedures you can take you get something done. For example, if a rep were to access your account they may not see anything readily available for a product change or lower APR, but if they first go to close the account the system automatically generates new offers to keep you as a customer if you're valuable.

I can tell you now they won't remove her from the account. Your best bet is to close the account and reapply next day - you should be approved without an issue.
