Cap1 Savor, what category ski tickets?

What would ski/lift tickets be considered? Would that be entertainment? Strange question I understand LOL

I would certainly think entertainment. I would search the net for an answer using the specific name of the resort that you're planning on purchasing them from.

The CapOne website says the entertainment category includes:

"Buying tickets to a movie, play, concert, sporting event, tourist attraction, theme park, aquarium, zoo, dance club, pool hall or bowling alley. Also, making purchases at record store and video rental locations. This excludes non-industry entertainment merchant codes like cable, digital streaming, and subscription services."

You could probably make an argument for ski resorts as a "tourist attaction"?

The Visa Supplier Locator database has my local ski resort ticket counter coding as "RECREATION/ AMUSEMENT FACILITIES - 7999" and when I searched a few places for other merchants with the same code it's mostly gyms and a few museums. So chances are decent that this would code as entertainment.

I chatted with a Capital One agent and asked for the Savor MCC's for the 4% catagories. The codes are listed below. 7999 is included in the 4% Entertainment Catagory.

⦁    5812 – Eating Places and Restaurants
⦁    5813 – Drinking Places: Bars, Taverns, Nightclubs, Cocktail Lounges, Discotheques
⦁    5814 – Fast Food Restaurants
⦁    5462 – Bakeries
⦁    Entertainment
⦁    7832 – Motion picture theaters
⦁    7841 – DVD/Video tape rental stores
⦁    7922 – Theatrical producers + ticket agencies
⦁    7929 – Bands, orchestras and misc. entertainers
⦁    7941 – Commercial sports, athletic fields and sports clubs
⦁    5737 – Record stores
⦁    7999 – Recreation services not elsewhere classified
⦁    7996 – Amusement parks, circuses and carnivals

Looking at the merchants with the 7999 code, it seems that it covers most of the gyms in the places I've searched. Interesting possibilities lol. This may be the perfect card. 4% CB on eating out and then another 4% CB for you to go work off those calories

I looked up the race track I go to once a year and it is covered under MCC 7941. The track is coded as a Sports Club. Parking at a Major League Ballpark was also coded the same. I am loving what is included in the Entertainment catagory.

What's important is how the specific spot that the OP is making the purchase from is coded. That's what needs to be determined. The lists above and discussing the different things that the Savor gives 4% back on is great and all, but unless you know if that specific ski resort codes that way it doesn't really matter. I would imagine that it would fall into and be coded as one of those categories, but you don't know until you really look into it.

That's a good point. Another thing to consider is that specific points of sale at a ski resort might also code differently. A ski resort's hotel front desk might not have the same code as the lift ticket window or the restaurant/on site dining venues or even the website purchasing portals. Depending on where and how you buy the ticket and whether it's part of a larger transaction for a package of different services it may code differently.

Well that settles it. Converting my QS ( previously a Platinum ) to Savor.

Skiing, opera, other spots, should be good.

I am kicking myself for not doing the Savor PC before the AF change.
