I have been a Capital One customer for a long time. My accounts have always been in good standing. My history with them expands over 20+ years. I received an offer in the mail today that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I have no intention of ever applying but it seems I would be way better off if I applied without this offer. It is for the Venture One card.

Capital One website My offer

APR 13.74% - 23.74% 24.99%

SUB 20k miles for 1k spend in 3 months No sign up bonus

0% intro APR for 12 months 0% APR for 9 months

I'm not sure why the APR they are offering me is higher than the max that is listed on their website. A 3 month shorter intro APR and no mention of a SUB. Since the letter says "because you are a valued customer", I feel very honored to have received this fantastic deal.

I've gotten similar offers.

For Capital One, it may make economic sense to just bombard lower-risk consumers with lousy offers and expect that a few won't know they can do much better.

It's a lot cheaper than trying to offer a competitive rewards program!

Well I agree - that is a generous offer from Capital One. You have to look at it from their point of view - afterall they are running a business not a charity.

I think them extending an offer to a hisk risk customer such as your self - has to be factored in. You clearly dont know what you are doing and are high risk. You only have 20 years history with them - not even close to the 50 years they preferred. And your Ficos are around 820 - borderline at best - try and get them to 1000 before you apply. You are lucky they dont just straight Blacklist you !

I am so glad I saw this post. They have been bombarding me with Savor One pre approvals. It's the same deal, my introductory 0% rate is only good until July. And no sign up bonus. When I go to see what offers I'm preapproved for on the site (not using the offer code) it doesn't even show this one...only Quicksilver One....umm no thanks.
I'm wondering since they're sending me this Savor One pre approval by mail and by email, does that mean I could cold app (not using the offer code) and be approved? it's just pretty perplexing

Those actors are at least (mostly) likeable and well-known.

Amex went with the relatively obscure Pharrell Williams and what did he come up with? A yellow Platinum that could either be described as piss-colored or mistaken for a Gold.
