How long for American Express cards to arrive?

Hey everyone,

So I applied for the Cash Magnet card on Thursday, but it was quite late so I think that American Express counted it as being "requested" on October 19th, but anyways, I've received emails about them setting up the rewards program and number on my account, and got an email today saying that the card was Enrolled into Cash Advance, so i'm assuming that it'll be shipped any time now. I did find somewhere online that it was being sent out by USPS, which isn't an issue. Does anyone have any idea about the timeline regarding how long it takes for them to ship out the cards? My family uses informed delivery so I should know in the morning of the day it's arriving, that is is indeed arriving.

Also, do they email you to let you know it's been shipped out?

My best guess will be This Thursday or Friday. Since you did it Friday, late. Most likely it will be mailed out Tuesday and a couple days from Tuesday or even ship out Monday and couple days from there.

I'm in no rush to receive the card, I'm just always curious how long it's going to take, as I like to get my account set up and get the card in my wallet as soon as possible. I do also like that Amex lets you set up your account before receiving the card.

USPS with Amex is usually 7-10 like they mention. Their cards typically ship out of Omaha, NE so I would guess the closer you are to that location the faster you'll get the card once it actually ships.

As for notification, in my experience, I've always received a system generated email saying that my card has shipped. In the instance that FedEx was the carrier, that email also included the tracking info.

The congrats email didn't have a time frame? Mine said 3-5 days for the Delta gold, but I guess it's a card that's expedited, just not expedited like their high-end cards. I didn't receive an email that anything shipped. I was approved Wednesday night so today was day 3. Should be here Monday if on schedule as promised. I believe it's coming USPS, so the expediting was probably in regards to processing.

That’s interesting. I just found it interesting for me because i kept getting emails as stuff was being enrolled, throughout the weekend and i did find somewhere where it changed from pending to my address so I’m not too sure

There’s a section about replacement cards. When you go there it tells you when the card was requested, the shipping address, and then the form of mail it’s being sent by. It showed pending for my address, then when I got the email saying my card was enrolled into cash advance, it changed to say my address instead of pending.

Yeah, don't see it. Trying to navigate the menu gives me an error that I need to call in for assistance. The address for my profile was there immediately upon creating my account.

Hmm interesting. Like I had said, I just want to get it and start using it, so don’t like cards just lingering in the mail!

You typically get an email that says "thank you for applying" then the card is shipped 2-3 days later. You will be notified by e-mail when the card ships with a message that show a status bar at the top:

I didn't get an email for my supposedly expedited card and wondered what the application status linked to. This is what I got. Interesting since the congrats email said 3-5 days.

Don't stress yourself. It'll be there and 99% of the time within the 7-10 days regardless of shipment email or not. Relax and enjoy your new card when it arrives.

Yeah you're right. It's just always amazing to me when I get approved for new cards with new issuers, I most likely am gonna be hitting the garden for a bit though!

As stated don’t stress over it. It will be here soon enough, likely within a week. Tracking isn’t always reliable so don’t let that bother you too much.

If you have stuff you want to use it for now, Amex has an option somewhere on their site where you can get a temporary card number so you can use the account while waiting for the card to arrive. I used it with my cash magnet for a couple of purchases I was making so they would count towards the spendng required for the sign up bonus. I would check to see where it is again, but the Amex portal appears to be down for me at the moment.

Oh, and it IS a really nice looking card in person.....for whatever that's worth.

Perhaps they handle expedited and/or co-branded cards differently. My 3 cards all followed the same process I shared in the previous comment.
