$100 Airline Fee Credit w/ Amex

Flying next month for a little getaway. So, my question is...

When flying and I get drinks, it's covered?

I've been reading on here about the giftcards, but I'm cool with just having drinks on my flight.

According to TPG, the approve items for the $200 airline fee credit on the AmEx Plat are:

Checked baggage fees
Overweight/oversize baggage fees
Change fees
Phone reservation fees
Pet flight fees
Airport lounge day passes and annual memberships
Seat assignment fees
In-flight amenity fees (beverages, food, pillows/blankets, etc)
In-flight entertainment fees (excluding wireless internet)

So I assume the credit works the same way for the AmEx Gold.

Select a qualifying airline and then receive up to $100 per calendar year in statement credits when incidental fees, such as checked bags and in-flight refreshments are charged by the airline to your eligible PRG/The Gold Card now.

For Plat with $200 AFC

What purchases count… officially?

Eligible incidental fees include:

Don't forget that you have to pick your Airline and that you can only change it once a year in January.

The problem is in interpreting the specific terms used in that detail. For example, Delta gift cards cannot be used for payment of Delta Comfort Plus upgrades, apart from the main travel ticket, because the upgrades are considered a fee. But as far as I can tell, if you buy the entire ticket with Comfort Plus included, that is a fare and no issues using gift cards to pay. In a similar way, I would think a gift card cannot be used for a flight change fee, yet the AMEX fee reimbursement probably would cover a flight change fee.

Keeping track of things like what qualifies for certain points on specific cards is another example. It often takes real world data points to then go back to the legalese in the document and be able to put it in context, see what it really says.

Personally, I'd rather have the gift card to use towards a flight. As said above the drinks are over priced. Besides, water is best for you at that altitude. However, if you're on long flight and need to eat. Free is always nice.

I agree. Reading it on the site is a bit different than the email they sent me once I enrolled.
