Chase - in-branch 5/24 exception to get Freedom?

Greetings. Currently at 8/24. Have a Chase checking account (with direct deposit), a CSP and CFU. YTD $30K spend (PIF'd) through those two cards.

Given those stats and a healthy (tho' hardly C-level) income, can anyone offer thoughts on whether I'd have any success in-branch applying for the Freedom?

I could be remembering wrong but I thought the in branch method around 5/24 has been not succesful for a little while now. I think Chase has really closed most avenues around 5/24.

If you have an actual preapproval, sometimes that does get around 5/24. Just straight up applying in a branch is no different than applying online in terms of processing/result.

An in-branch application will only work if you also have an in-branch pre-approval. So check with a personal banker at a local branch to see if you have any in-branch pre-approvals.

How 'bout this: ask Chase to issue a Freedom using half of the existing CL of my CFU?

In this particular case, it's not about getting a higher CL -- it's about getting the 5% categories.

If you are denied for 5/24, "bargaining" methods like this don't help or matter. It's not about issuing more credit or not. Chase just simply won't approve you if you are above 5/24. Don't waste a hard pull and expect to talk your way into an approval unless you are preapproved.

I totally understand why you want the Fredom card (5%) but Chase won't care about your reason. Not to sound harsh - this is just how Chase is these days!*

Regardless of whether you want to split existing credit lines, the roadblock will be that you're 8/24. So the only way around it is an in-branch pre-approval for a Freedom card.

Expat, Do you have a green check mark for the Freedom? My CSP and Freedom were both 🤣/24. I don’t know if the check mark still works. Good luck. Given the right category this card is a winner.

No green checkmark currently, but my Chase banking relationship is still a seedling. We'll see if anything happens as the direct deposits from my new job starts to flow (and Chase can 'see' money leave to pay other bank cards).

If you have the in-branch preapproval or the green check mark, it's probably worh risking the pull(s). Visit your branch, though. The offer might be better than what you see online.

That said, if I were in your shoes, I'd probably wait until I was under 5/24.

FWIW, I opened a Chase Total Checking account primarily for the $200 bonus on 10/5/17 and got green check mark approvals for Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, and Slate around Christmas; then opened a Freedom via in-branch application on 12/28.

Chase seriously doesn't care unless you're a private client.

Chase really doesn't care about banking relationship unless you have a ton of money in there (CPC), and even that no longer circumvents 5/24.

I would definitely wait on a green checkmark or preapproval or else just wait until you pass the 5/24 test.
