A few days ago I posted in the business section about my approval for the SPG business card. They approved me with a $18300 limit. FFW to today: checked my accts. and found they did a Peter and Paul--IOW they took almost 1/2 of my personal BCE limit to open that card--which I must add has a MUCH HIGHER APR. If I would have known a reallocation was necessary I would have asked them to take from the Simply Cash + instead! I just got of chat with a CSR and asked to have most of my BCE limit restored and get this: Was told they generally don't transfer CLs from business to personal--and vice versa.....What did they just do a few days ago???? Now apparently I have to call and talk to the Credit Limit team to fight to get my BCE limit restored. No way in h*** would I have allowed them take from my personal--much lower APR card to open a card with a sky high APR--or at least not 1/2 of the CL anyway--maybe a couple thousand but not HALF--Pissed. UPDATE later in the thread.

CSR is 1/2 wrong, you can move from personal to business (what they did) but not the other way around (what you want to do now). I would be pissed as well had they done this without my consent, hope you get your BCE restored.

Interesting... I don’t think I’ve heard of AmEx doing this prior to now, only Chase and Bank of America on personal accounts. I did re-check my AmEx cards again after getting approved the new Prime Business card at launch, and the limits are in tact. I’ll be curious to hear if anyone else has encountered this scenario (involuntarily) with AmEx, and if the OP gets a satisfactory resolution.

Usually AMEX will take from your least used card on a new approval if you can't flat out get an approval without reallocation.. Do you not really use your BCE? It is strange that they did take from your personal credit thought vs. your simply cash which is business credit. Never heard of them doing that before but as others have echoed you can reallocate from personal to business but not other way around... Be slightly annoyed as well they didnt take it from your simplycash.

So you are now at $49,000 overall total limits, Business and Personal, on AMEX Revolvers? Or did they only take some from BCE and you got some more credit to get to $18,300 on SPG Business, and your total limit is something more than $49,000?

On my last app in January, which rounded out to 5 personal revolvers, they took some from another card, to get to a total limit of $55,000 across all cards. A $5k increase to get to that $55k total.

What is your total of limits across all revolvers, Personal and Business combined?

I've had Amex take limits from other cards at least twice. I moved them back where I wanted them afterwards.

The way the feds are raising interest rates. I wouldn't sweat the rates too much.
Anything higher than 0% is too high for me.😂

Pretty sure that limit is going to end up being stuck on the business side not to be retrieved back to personal. As for SPG they can have that card and that bonus. Last time I looked it doesn't take $18K to open a revolver. Would have rather had a denial and then MAYBE A CHOICE of reallocation. Not gonna use it--when the AF comes due I'm going to transfer that limit to my other business card and close it.This whole experience is going to leave a very foul taste in my mouth.

I understand the frustration of them doing something without asking, but what's the appeal of a big limit on BCE vs. another card? Is it just overall reported utilization, given that Amex business cards don't help there?

I just use my BCE for offers and history. The meager rewards and inferior benefits vs. alternatives would make it one of my last choices for heavy spend.

I’m sure it’s frustrating in the moment, but your overall available revolving credit with Amex has increased. At the end of the day, there’s still the option of a 3x CLI down the line to get your BCE back up to what it was, if not more.

Is it just overall reported utilization, given that Amex business cards don't help there?

I just use my BCE for offers and history. The meager rewards and inferior benefits vs. alternatives would make it one of my last choices for heavy spend.

Yup, everyone likes 3x to get huge limits but at the end of the day if you don’t use it or it ends up just being the total max Amex would give someone they just move it around if you want other cards. Chase sort of does this on recon when declined and I don’t think they even let you transfer from personal to business.

2 Marriott points is better than 1%.

Never did I ever use 3x to get BCE to the $35.5k limit--It was approved at $10k a few years back (Jan. 2015) and taken to that limit in $5k to $7k increments over time--and I had that limit there on BCE for my own personal reason.

I also get the part about being at max exp and moving limits around--but what person in their right mind would request to take $18K from personal and move it to business to open a card that doesn't necessarily require a huge limit to open and get utilized when UTL isn't as a big a factor on a business AMEX revolver???? Especially when there's a business card already in place to pulll from if necessary?? And move it to a card with an enormous APR??

$2k to $5k with a reallocation included would have been P-L-E-N-T-Y to open this card and use it for the purpose I had intended--not $18k.

Wasn't necessary. Plus If I was going to do a $18K reallocation it would have been to the ED card b/c the APR on that card is my lowest and my UTL wouldn't change since it's also a personal card.

But you seem to be overlooking my point--As I stated at the very beginning of the thread I would have been up for a SMALL reallocation to get SPG open--but from the business side FIRST--and THEN from the personal side only if ABSOLUTELY necessary--and it would have still been the same $50K max exposure.
