Just curious if anyone has ever tried this and if so, found any success. If you have an oddball Discover limit, are they willing to round it up a few hundred bucks to even it out?

For example, say your limit is $8300 and you request a CLI and receive $1500, bringing you to $9800. Can you contact Discover and get them to raise it $200 to $10,000 to even it out?

I've been at an oddball Discover limit (ending in either $300 or $800) since receiving my first CLI; I think I've received 7-8 CLIs on the account over 2 years, but the limit has never evened itself out. I know this is a silly thing to stress about, but it definitely messes with my OCD!

I actually had the same issue as you did, when I opened my Disco card, I was given an odd amount as well. After a few CLI's (minor), it's now evened out to a more normal number. I did ask this question to a CSR when DDing, they stated that the system controls whatever amount is given, now you can change the amount when you get approved for a CLI (via slider bar), to either lessen it so that the number works out better or if someone calls in to DD, whatever amount they give. As far as asking for more, I don't think they allow that from what my understanding was.

I don't think it's OCD. I plan on doing the same thing with a backup Capital One card. Dollar-wise, I'm satisfied with 7.4k. But rather than adding up a bunch of pending charges to see what I'm going to owe, I like to subtract my available credit from my limit. That's easier to do when the limit ends in three zeros. Once this card is eligible for a CLI, I'm going to request a $600 increase.

I asked through chat a little bit ago and they more or less said what you stated... that you can back down from whatever you get (CLD) but not up, at least via chat. I'm not sure if anyone has ever done a double-dip via chat, so I was going to try and call in and see what they say. If there's more money on the table for me, (say $500) I could just take the $200 to level off my limit to a nice round number.

They will certainly round down for you or on your next CLI don't click accept full amont and round it to keep OCD at bay.. It does drive me crazy on a few cards I have no control, but with discover their is a slider as most are aware were you can set your own destiny.. Other lenders that just give X CLI you would have to call and ask for a CLD to get desired results.

Technically, I think you can. I mean, Discover doesn't really care why you want more, right? I've read a few people calling for this reason and getting it but personally I think they're just being humored and got the DD they were going to get regardless of the reason. I also saw someone get this with a CLI + realloc, I think for the same reason. They're just giving you what's available...maybe less since you asked for a specific amount.
And for the life of me I wish it didn't bother my OCD, but thankfully I'm more obsessed with a limit increase I don't need, lol!

I called them up and they said that the CLI I received was the maximum available to me, so no way of rounding it up. I'll wait for my next CLI and likely just take $200 of it; I'm probably due for a $500 CLI next go-round since I got a larger one this time.

I know you are asking about "rounding up", but I can vouch for the fact that you can easily have them "round down" for you.

In August 2016, I had a Discover CL of $13,500. My previous increase was $1500 (previous CL was $12,000), so I thought I would get another $1500 increase to take me to a nice amount of $15,000. Wrong. I received a $6K increase, taking my limit to $19,500. I know that most folks on here would have rejoiced at such an increase, but I didn't need a limit that high on my it card. I contacted Discover via chat and asked them about a voluntary CLD to get down to $15K. The first agent sent me a link for the request, but there was a problem with that process. I contacted another chat agent and they made the change for me. This was done between statement cuts and anyone looking at my report would never have known that I gave myself a CLD, as they would have just seen the increase from $13.5K to $15K.

I have no regrets about the CLD because I'm a PIF guy and I haven't charged more than $400 per month on that card since then. I just felt that $19.5K was a bit overkill for my needs and I was happy that Discover was able to accommodate the request so easily.

That's definitely true regarding a self-initiated CLD; I think most lenders would gladly do that, not just Discover.

I'll likely go this route the next time I get a CLI, whether it's $500 or $5000 I think I'll just take $200 of it to round my limit off to the nearest $10k and call it a day.

With the "round up" thing, it seems it all comes down to whether or not someone has a "double dip" available on their account. If they do and call up to request the additional [available CLI] credit, at that point a lesser amount could be accepted. In my case though, I did not have anything additional on the table; There was no DD opportunity.
