On my Uber Visa with Barclays alerts set, the transaction alert doesn't come until the transaction has posted, sometimes up to 24hrs after it has posted. The Visa alerts are emailed every time your card is swiped or authorized regardless of whether it eventually actually posts.

There are pros and cons to both approaches. The Barclays emails only alert you when something definitely posts to your account and gives you the final total. The Visa emails alert you every time your card is used but the total is preliminary only.

So for instance, you spend $100 at a restaurant and tips $20. Visa will email you right after the server swipes your card but will only show $100 since you haven't set the tip yet. There will be no update for the final authorized total including tip once that goes through. Barclays will alert you 2 days later but will show $120. The first is intended more as fraud alert while the second is more for you to keep track of spending.

purchase alerts?

Barclay's Uber is currently my daily driver. The only problem I have with it is that I don't get purchase alerts until the merchant posts the transaction.

With Discover I get alerted as soon as the swipe. Anyone else have this issue with the uber? A solution?

I use the purchase alert service directly from Visa. It's not available from every bank but my Uber Visa was eligible. I receive the emailed alert with the amount before my card even comes back from the server.

https://purchasealerts.visa.com/

I don't use Uber very often, just for dining, but I'll sign up for, I thinking handing your CC to a server in a restaurant is one of the riskier things that can go wrong.

Thanks for the tip.

Yes, my Discover, Cap One & BoA apps give me an alert when the card is swiped.

What do you mean? Have you tried setting the single transaction alert and/or daily spending alert to $1?

I had single transaction, which is delayed, but I just set the daily transaction # and daily spend. These are mobile alerts and hopefully quicker than merchant posts.
