Chase pay and Samsung pay?

When I go into Chase pay and choose the pay button at the bottom, i then see an option "Add card to Samsung Pay", which gives me an error: "This card isn't eligible to use with Samsung pay right now. Please call the number on the back of your card for more info." I'm not sure why this isn't working? I read on here that some people do this to get 5% everything for this quarters categories. any advice is appreciated . thanks!

I was getting that error a few times. I called and was eventually told that Chase Pay systems were having issues. Eventually it resolved without me doing anything special. I would try to add directly in Samsung pay though, rather than via Chase Pay (although it should be the same interface)

If one were to add the card directly into Samsung Pay (bypassing Chase Pay) wouldn't that prevent them from earning the bonus for using Chase Pay?

I don't have a UR earning card (so I might be off-base) but it seems that the attraction would be to be able to use Chase Pay via Samsung Pay's MST, meaning to earn the Chase Pay bonus you would have to add via Chase Pay and link from there.

Perhaps I'm mistaken, though, and you can link from Samsung Pay as well?

In any case I've also had intermittent issues with adding cards... it usually self-corrects with a little time (day at the most).

Two DP that may be relevant:

1. Chase gave me 5x on a purchase (Sprouts grocery store) where I used Samsung Pay but did not tap through Chase Pay first for the transaction. I had, on a transaction days before at the same merchant, gone through Chase Pay and selected the "Pay With Samsung Pay" feature before paying. Both methods gave me 5x...though in future quarters I will probably stick with going through Chase first to be safe.

2. Neither Samsung Pay nor Chase Pay can accomodate my IHG card (not a problem, as I decided I didn't want included when I discovered the limit of 10 cards).

In my case, my chase cards were magically in Chase Pay somehow. Some were not in Samsung Pay and so if I wanted those used, I had to add them to Samsung Pay as well. (But since I don't understand the magic bit, not sure what has to be done to start from scratch).

Also, the attraction is not only Samsung MST. It's that very few places allow "native" Chase Pay, so being able to use Samsung even with NFC is the win. (In fact all my Chase Pays this quarter have used SP NFC).

I'm curious if you can use Chse Pay online at places like Best Buy etc.? I recently got an email for 1,500 points if I download and use Chase pay 5 times with a $25 purchase on each. But there's not a lot of merchants here that even accept electronic paments, at least none that I frequent.

Thats the mian reason I've enver downloaded any of these electronic paying options.

I'll have to leave the question about Best Buy to someone else, but Chase Pay can be linked to Walmart Pay, so if you frequent Walmart (or if you have one nearby even if you don't frequent it) that might be a way to help knock out the five purchases.

That explains it. I do see the logo.

Constantly having to log in to Chase Pay would be a PITA.

Chase Pay requires the entry of a password or the use of a thumbprint (a feature not everyone will have activated). I'm not sure if Chase intended it, but the message I get is that Chase knows its app isn't nearly as good and, until they figure out something better, is content to play a secondary role if it means they can stay in the game (and not get deleted altogether from customer phones).

Same here (on my S8+, the shame!) and fingerprints don't always work well, so bypassing CP is great. I suppose for those without Samsung, Chase Pay still has a role (although its potential for use seems pretty small)

I don't think Chase has a winning proposition with Chase Pay other than using promotional incentives for people to use it. Unfortunately, Chase doesn't own the mobile platforms. They're SOL with Apple Pay because I doubt Apple is ever going to allow a different mobile payment platform to use the NFC feature on their phones, so they're severely limited to the Chase Pay app and QR code that gets accepted at like 5 stores (I'm guessing here).

At least, Samsung Pay allowed the integration to their app so Chase Pay can be used like you would any other credit card. Honestly, Samsung Pay is the only thing keeping me from switching my work phone back to iPhone. I take my personal iPhone everywhere, but I always use the Galaxy to pay so I have to carry both :/

Yes, who would have guessed that a major part of the value proposition of the phone was going to be the payment system it supports!

Yup. I used to carry 2 iPhones (work and personal), and throw the work phone in my briefcase at the end of the day/weekends. I requested a switch to a Galaxy just so I could use Samsung Pay with my USB Altitude and then Chase Pay. Now I carry 2 phones everywhere. SMH... haha.

first time testing out chase pay attached to samsung pay. wow!... it is so simple and quick to use. I went to my chase account and saw the charge immediately. How would I know this transaction counted as chase pay? will it be label in the description somewhere after the transaction posts?
