When will Amex pre-qual offers start coming in?

I opened my first Amex card, an Amex gold on 10/14. When can I expect pre-qual offers to start showing up? Or maybe they should have already but I haven’t been targeted?

Welcome to the Amex family!!! I opened my first Amex card (Cash Magnet) on Sept 20th and received my first preapp 30 days later. I applied for the SPG card and was approved instantly with no HP. 30 days after that, I recently was preapped for all cards, and apped the Gold and was given 14 day message. Called the next day and answered some I.V. questions and was approved over the phone. CSR was great! I have 3 cards with them now all on one HP in less than 3mnths (cash rewards, travel, and now charge card) TRIFECTA. Once you are in the family, preapps are SP's. I also received a CLI to $25k from $12k 61 days after opening my cash magnet. If you get another card that is a regular credit card, not charge card like Gold, you will be eligible for huge CLI soonafter. Justkeep looking for preapps. What does it say now when you click apply? "Expand Youre Membership?" It will say preapproved ove you are Good luck!

Thanks! I also got the BBP for everyday spend. Have two 5/24 slots left and will be using them next month for CSP and Ink Cash. After that will prob look to another Amex. Thinking the new Biz Amazon Prime. Also considering the SPG...although I will have a card fall off my 5/24 in June and might wait till then and shoot for Chase Hyatt card.

Right now when I hit apply I get the “Expand” message.

Great! Yes the "expand your membership" will eventually turn to approved. I have 3 Chase cards. I got CFU for $7k and four months later auto CLI to $12k. Then had green check offers for CSP and Slate. I apped both in one day and was instanty approved for CSP- $10k and Slate- $3.2k. Total Chase $25k.

For the record I don't think ink cash counts towards 5/24 .if you are over 5/24 you could be denied but don't think it adds to 5/24

Thanks! Super useful to know. Then Hyatt card might come sooner than planned...or Freedom.

If you don't plan on keeping either csr or csp long term they are good options to pc to cf or cfu so you don't burn a 5/24 slot. Cf and cfu signup bonuses are pretty meh 20k points max I think. That's if you have csp or csr presently

When you go to the card you want on Amex's website. Hit apply and if it says "Name, You are preapproved" then your preapproved.

If it says "name, Expanding your Membership is easy" That's anyones guess. You may still be approved for the card but it's not a pre-approval.

Just to clarify... Amex does not routinely send out pre-qualified offers so nothing will "start showing up."

The way to find out if you're pre-approved for a card is to login to your online account, then click on Menu > Cards > View all Credit Cards. Scroll through the cards shown and click on the "Apply Now" button for the card you're interested in. If a banner message appear stating "James3332, you are pre-approved! Get a decision in as little as 30 seconds" then you're cleared to apply. If the banner message says "Expanding your membership with us is easy" then you're not pre-approved. You can still apply but the odds of approval are reduced.

Make sure that when clicking through from the Menu button you select "View all Credit Cards" and not "Credit Card Offers." The "Credit Card Offers" will only show you the three cards that Amex's marketing department is currently pushing, but you want to see all their cards.

Also, Amex has a dynamic website and its possible, depending on your Experian FICO 8 score and what's in your credit report, to see all 18 cards they offer when not logged in to your account, but a lesser number once logged in.
