I tried for a cli awhile back now (9 months, maybe a little more), I had a couple of maxed cards and I had only been paying the minimum on my AMEX card, I was denied the increase, but not because of the maxed cards but because of low payments on the AMEX card, so there is a chance that you very well may be approved for the increase. It may not be as high as you hope but some is better than none.

I have had bcp since May. Paid on time and in a full each month but this last one where I carried a balanced over. No lates. Do they only look at credit scores or would solid payment history give me a cli when scores are low? My utilization on two others is max dropping scores.

I could be wrong, but I dont think your chances at CLI with two maxed out cards are very good.

I would imagine that it's overall picture when determining cli eligibility

Not sure about balances with other cards but they definitely care about your balance in relation to your CL on any of their cards.

Maxed out other cards can only hurt your CLI chances with Amex. Think about it. If you have multiple maxed out cards already the risk of you maxing out another (say Amex) is greater. That being said, extending you additional credit that you may end up maxing out only increases their exposure.
