topic Cap1 Credit Steps in Credit Cards

I have two cap1 cards on the credit steps program. One is 18 months old and the other is 9 months old. Does anyone know how to graduate or get off this program. It seems that cap1 will only offer me 100 on each cli. Fico is about 650 across the board. Chase and Discover have been more generous with their SL. Haven't tried for cli with them yet.

Thanks for any help you can offer. Been reading for a while and you guys are great.

At 9 and 18 months your cards are out of steps but unfortunately are 'bucketed'. You can search the forums for 'asset backed securities' (ABS) to understand more about it.

It's borderline rare for Cap1 to unbucket cards so what many do is wait until after your next cli on both, then combine the newer into the older. The closed tradeline will still report for 10 years so combination will not affect your credit score by closing one card.

After that, just be patient, keep your cards in order, and let your score climb a little more before trying Cap1 again as you'll likely end up in the same bucket.
