Chase FU $300 SUB email offer

Hello myfico friends,

I just received a sweet email offer from chase for the freedom unlimited. It comes with an amazing $300 for $500 spend SUB. Basically I’m wondering if these offers mean anything- as in if they might mean higher approval chances (based on people’s previous experiences etc).

I’m from NYC so I’m not sure what chase pulls. I’m current TU8: 708 and EX8: 712. The other issue is that I’m currently at exactly 5/24 and it won’t drop till 02/16 (it’ll be 3/5) and the offer is only valid till 02/05 (just my luck!).

Should I give it a shot?

Edit: it comes with a sweet 15 month 0% APR as well (ugh!)

Was the apr a solid number or was there a range? Also did you check chase pre approval and see the offer? Obviously ymmv but many have had a good chance of bypassing 5/24 by applying in the bank. Good luck with this great offer.

Was it an invitation to apply or an actual pre-qualified offer OP? Check to see if you are actually pre-qualified online just to see if the results align with the email invite offer you received.

Im prequaled on their website for this card but havnt pulled the trigger yet. If I had that offer, Id be all over it

Great question! Given the wordage (and the APR range rather than set number) I’m going to assume it’s simply an invitation to apply rather than an offer. But man, that’s one spicy invitation hmm.

The email says: ‘....as a valued Chase customer, we want to make sure you know about this exclusive offer for the Chase Freedom Unlimited card. Apply by February 5, 2019.’

Sadly I can’t check for pre-qualifications due to being 20.

Yup, it's just an invitation OP, no pre-qualification offer, unfortunately.

The wording of 'valued' and 'exclusive' are marketing solicitation triggers to provide you with the feeling of confidence to take the offer. Marketing 101.

All things being equal, it doesn't mean that you can't apply and/or be approved. If you have the profile that can support it, go for it.

The majority of my Chase approved applications were cold apps btw. I realize that you're very young, but it seems (from your signature) that you have established a pretty good profile for being 20. Your decision, of course.

Yeah I’m definitely still considering it since the HP doesn’t bother me at all.

One last question, were most of your approvals and/or denials instant?

Some of my approvals were instant with CCs like Freedom, CSP back in the day.

All other applications went to pending thereafter with the longest being IHG.

So, it's fairly possible that if you were to apply that it would likely go into pending or further review. A variety of them tend to go that route anyways. But, being patient killed no one 😉

I had a secured NFCU card which graduated and got combined once I applied and was approved for the GO Rewards! Although technically closed, it was opened 23 months ago so I’m counting it in the 5/24.

Just to add a data point to this. I think my scores are around 650/660 right now (they go up and down based on utilization). I received this offer and figured I'd apply because it's a really good SUB. I am at 5/24 or even possibly 6/24 but I got an instant approval for $7100 (!!!). I was really surprised. My highest starting CL by far.
