@Anonymous wrote:

I buy Groceries in Walmart and Costco as well. So I guess the main categories inlude Wholesale clubs

We don't really dine out and fuel expenses do not exceed 60 per month so i consider it immaterial

the other categories are so called non-categories spent

I think Altitude Reserve gives 4.5% on mobile wallet purchases. It's not simple cash back, though. I think it can only be redeemed as travel you book through US Bank's website.

I get most groceries at Costco and use CFU there (paired with CSR and Freedom)...or my Costco Visa if I want a Citi benefit (for something other than food).

For uncomplicated straight rewards on all purchases, PayPal cashback or Citi DC are both 2% cards.

Then there are the category cards mentioned here. If you pair them with a 2% card you’ll almost always come out ahead but if you just have category cards that give 1% back on other purchases, you’ll end up missing out on cashback most of the time so if you get a category card like the BBVA Compass ClearPoints or the US Bank Cash+, make sure to get a 2% general spend card for everything else.

Otherwise, the EDP or ED also provide travel rewards with groceries as a bonus. I would typically recommend Chase for travel rewards to start with, but they don't really have groceries as a bonus, though there are ways around that.

Walmart, Target, and others may not necessarily code as grocery.

And there's the question of getting the right transfer partner(s)...MRs might not be ideal if you live in a United hub and don't want to mess around with codeshare partners.

Some cards offer high cashback on certain categories. For example, my US Bank Cash Plus gives me 5% back on my phone bill every month. My BBVA Clearpoints card will give me 3% on gas. For everything else, I go with the Citi DC. 2% on everything.

And, to add: some bills may add on an extra fee for paying by credit card. (Utilties are like this in my area). In which case you either decide to skip paying by card, or you have to get one that earns more than the fee.

Or just pay many months at a time to offset the fee.

Yes, if it is a flat fee. My city bills are 2.9% of the total, so prepay doesn't help

I buy Groceries in Walmart and Costco as well. So I guess the main categories inlude Wholesale clubs

We don't really dine out and fuel expenses do not exceed 60 per month so i consider it immaterial

the other categories are so called non-categories spent
