I think it's OK to mention that you have a referral code in a post, and for folks to send a personal message if interested?

I hope so, as I've done that before for a banking referral.

It’s actually against forum rules to send referral codes through PM as well.

all forum rules still apply to private messages.

A quick check of the Sticky links at the top of the page, links to PM etiquette.
Soliciting business not allowed, among other things.

Referral links count as solicitation in my book.

A large number of common topics are covered in those sticky links. Easy to find, too
