Chase Waited Too Long :(

Hi y'all! I am a student, age 20, so until I turn 21, I've attributed it a lot to why I don't get many preapprovals. The only company I've ever been preapproved for is Amex, everyone else (including Discover) has just given me nothing! All of my cards outside of my Amex Gold Delta have been cold apps.

I just applied for the Gold Delta a little more than a week ago (SP approval, account hasn't posted yet) because of a 70,000 mile offer I received. Before applying for this card, I was 7/24, but once the Delta reports, I'll be at 8/24...

Well, today Chase decided to be my first big player and pre-approve me for the Sapphire Prefered! This sucks, because while I'm trying to get the Gold Delta SUB for $3k spend, I can't possibly hit the $4k spend for the Prefered Additionally, I'm worried that once 8/24 hits my account and Chase SP's me, they'll take the pre-approval away :/

I don't think I'll pull the trigger today, but at least the big boys are starting to respect me for the responsible student I am

EDIT: This was a pre-approval through the Green Checkmark Offers page for current customers, not the regular pre-approvals page.

with "8/24" forget Chase, you'll be instantly denied!, instaed of cold APP'ing, may I suggest Preapproval's?

Chase's 5/24 Rule ....."Strike Three..you're out"

I'll dig up the pre approval lings on MyFico somewhere, or if someone has them handy?

you'll save yourself a lot of HP's and grief. Trust Me, Been there Got The "T' shirt.

I've looked at those links before, too many times haha... I have only ever been pre-approved by Amex and now Chase. However, I failed to mention this was through the green checkmarks for current customers, which, while not guaranteed, is the one possible way to bypass 5/24. Without it, being over 5/24 is 100% a no-go like you said, but there is a chance with the green checkmarks on the Offers page.

If you have a relative who is both trustworthy and financially secure, perhaps you could pay a few of his or her bills and get reimbursed in cash? Or add an AU?

I'm not necessarily up-to-date on preapproval rules.

Congrats on the status with AMEX. Amex in my opinion is VERY hard to do business with. Not that they are bad but they like history.

Congrats on the Delta Gold card. What is the starting limit?

Perhaps 10 cards will be enough to keep you busy making sure the payments are on time, building your internal score with AMEX to try to raise that limit, and get the SUB spend taken care of? I don’t know what your spend plans are, but $3k on an AMEX SUB is hard.

Chase will have something for you later.

My Gold card started at $5k. However, it was taken from my Amex BCE which was at (ridiculously) $20k from the 3x CLI's. So I now have a $15k - $5k split. I am totally fine with this. $5k gets a little tight sometimes, especially trying to reach the SUB of $3k, but it works for me.

I was going to pay my rent to reach this SUB, but I realized that my rent company only takes Visa, Mastercard, and Discover, so since my mother's house heater broke down last week, I offered to loan the $3500 to fix it. SUB problem fixed

UPDATE: Upon realizing that I have $3500 in rent due in the next 3 months, I decided to pull the trigger on the Chase preapproval, and even at 7/24 (with the Gold Delta, it should be 8/24 when it reports), I was approved! Off to the Approval boards!
