Amazon Points Not Working - Chase

Hey guys, so I wanted to buy me a book and I couldn't get my Amazon Chase credit card use as points. It's for default payment, when at checkout I'm suppose to have an option for the points but I don't see it. I got the card replaced but just updated with the new card on Amazon. When even on the shop with points, there's no program for the Chase Amazon. I don't know what else to do. Please help, thanks!

This sounds like an issue with the Amazon web site. Have you tried reaching out to them?

Side note: Now that you can redeem Amazon Visa rewards in any dollar amount to a bank account, it's generally better to redeem your Amazon Visa rewards for cash, since if you redeem the points for a purchase you don't get 5% back for that purchase.

Using chase points on amazon is not a great way to spend them.

If you arn't going to use them on travel where they have the highest value. At least make the purchase on the card (earning points) and apply to a statement credit. ~you earn points on the transaction and still no hard dollarbills out of your pocket.

I think I like pizza is talking about Chase UR points.

I wasn't aware the Amazon Visa gives you points, I thought it was just a straight cash back card. That said, I also hadn't heard anything about being able to redeem the rewards for this card for anything besides cash back or using them on Amazon as the OP asked - which, as noted, would be giving up 5% back on those purchase redemptions.

That was my thought but there is actually an option for travel. It's phone based though so I can't see redemption values!

Yup. Too early. Still 5% off at amazon is way more better than....not 5% at amazon. I don't have the card, but can you just apply to statement credit or get a check/ACH?

As far as I recall, the Amazon rewards travel option (only available via phone) is 1cpp. I don't know why anyone would really bother. Easier to just take a statement credit against your travel purchase or whatever. If I'm wrong and it's more than 1cpp, that changes the discussion!

With regard to the OP, I wouldn't worry about whether the points work on Amazon or not because you shouldn't use them on Amazon. You give up that portion of the rewards on the actual purchase when you do that. In small amounts, this is really just splitting hairs and not a big deal, but on a large purchase it could be more significant.

The only reason why I got the Amazon card was to get the 5% but also to use the cash back as shop with points. I don't want to go thru the hassle of getting cashback thru Chase, yes it's the same but I need to wait 24 hrs for it to update in Amazon system I believe. I contacted Chase before and they said I need to update the card, now I just have to wait.

Giving up 5% and forcing yourself to redeem the points on Amazon rather than have cash (essentially choosing to take an Amazon GC in lieu of cash) just to not have to wait 24 hours? Seems asinine and slightly self defeating, but hey man if it works better for you, I just figured the whole point of CC rewards was to maximize value. Maybe I'm missing something.

When you replace a card, it can take 24-72 hours for the rewards program to show up again.

I had to replace my Amazon Prime Visa and the points showed after a few days.

Let me understand this. Are you saying you don't get 5% back on items when you pay for them using points at checkout? You're recommending paying for items with the Chase credit card and then redeeming points as a statement credit instead?

Is this the same with other prime credit cards like Amex?

Regarding the Amazon Visa, you only earn 5% back in points when you pay for your purchase using the credit card. If you pay for your purchase with points at checkout, you don't earn points for that purchase.

Most people will redeem Amazon Visa points another way, and use the card to pay for Amazon purchases to maximize their earnings.

I prefer to have my points sent to my checking account as a direct deposit (there's no minimum, and it just takes a day), but there are other options as well.

I will always get the 5% as long as I'm a prime member regardless of if I'm using points or not, I'm using the amazon credit card by chase. I'm not recommending anything, what I'm just saying is whatever category it is for amazon chase card, it gives you I use it to maximize the points for amazon, and I use the points to pay for my purchase. Whether, I get statement credit back, cashback back into the checking, gift cards, its still the same. I just choose the use the amazon credit card specifically for amazon.

If I wanted cash back, I could use my cashback credit cards such as usbank cash plus and 365, discover it, better balance rewards, etc.

I don't have a amazon card with amex.

Are you certain of this?

While it's possible there's been a recent change, numerous sites say you must charge your purchase to the card to earn points, and that you don't earn points when you pay with points. This is why most people are advising to cash out.
