Capital One loves paying in full. On a couple of occasions when I've called to confirm my CLI eligibility, reps have volunteered that I'm in great shape for an increase because I always pay in full.

Second best to paying in full is to show substantial progress toward paying down revolving balances. Paying off a November purchase by January is a good look.

If you're paying in full, I don't think they care a whole lot if Capital One statement balances are high. Overall scores can be a reason for denial, though. For that reason, it makes sense to keep reported balances down.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Capital One uses old pulls. If you've recently raised your score, you can ask a rep when your next account review will be and time your request that way.

I thought Capital One denied CLI requests if one had been over his limit within the past year. But I'm not currently seeing that information on their CLI FAQ.

The FAQ does say that CLI requests will be denied during fraud investigations, which isn't what I experienced.
Just got off the phone with CSC and they had good news. My old platinum account has been upgraded to the Quicksilver account. Thanks to everyone on here I would have never known to call in and ask if their was any upgrades for my account. I also asked if their CLI were HP or SP and she stated they were SP. So when I got off the phone I went online to hit the luv button but, bad news there no love due to my recent upgrade. I look at it as a win regardless. Now I get rewards at 1.5% from now on if I choose to use their card. Does anyone have any advise on how much longer I should wait to hit the luv button again since it’s only a SP? My most recent CLI was in August 2018 and it was a auto CLI. They increased me 1k. So my total CL is 5k. I’m ok with the limit for the meantime. I have a lot of CL with my recent app spree. Everyone have a great week 😎.

The upgrade would have had no effect on your ability to get a CLI. My guess is that you probably weren't spending enough. You can ask as often as you want. The only restriction is that after a credit limit change, you become ineligible for another for six months.

Interesting for sure then. I wonder why it stated that on the remark. I’ll have to see why when the letter comes. It was originally set up as the rebuilder card. Does that have anything to do with it? And my last CLI was August 2018. Don’t think it would be due to that correct? As per their guild lines I believe I’m eligible for CLI every 6 months correct?

Did you wait the full six months? Maybe you were a few days early. That's the usual cause of the "not eligible" message.

Customer Service can tell you when you're eligible again. I've called to confirm my eligibility date before most of my CLI requests.

Upgrade doesn't impact CLI one way or another. They are strange sometimes... I've seen people only get a CLI once then never again. Open a new card then bam huge CL

On the other hand I've seen people start with &300 CL and after 5 months get an auto CLI of $3000.
Just depends if their system likes you. Helpful tip : use all of your credit line then pay it down before statements cut. They love heavy usage but want your utilization below 10% when bill time comes.

Below 10% is not even a solid data point either. They like big purchases paid off quickly also. My $2000 CLI that brought my card to $8250 last March was after buying a new TV in November and rolling a balance until I could PIF the last of it in January.

Capital One and Disco don’t mind customers who revolve balances as long as they make large payments.

Trying to figure out the CLIs for Disco and Cap is a futile endeavor.

Yes that too. They like large payments. They don't even care if you go over your line either. No over the limit fee. They just want many payments, big ones... and use card heavily

Thanks for the intel. I’m going to call the CSC later and find out exactly when I got the last auto CLI in August. I’ve actually received several auto CLI’s. My SL I believe was 750.00 back when I first appd for the card back many years ago. So and now I’m at 5k in my opinion not too bad for not knowing anything until I joined this forum. Thanks to everyone on here Ive grown my file 😎.

I have a Capital One CC, started with the Platnuim card, $300.00 cl, got the standard move after 5 months to 500.00, then one day after 9 months saw my CL was increased to 1,500.00. I then called CS requested the QS card ( no annual fee), they approved me. I have read various threads regarding the bucket you are placed in and the only way to get out is to re apply for a new CC once your scores are high enough. I always pay in full, and make 2-3 payments each month, I charge everything I can on the card, ( cell phone, groceries, gas) then just pay it all off 1 week before the statement is due. I then called CS and asked about CLI and they informed me yes, 6 months is the window before next increase request, however after reading the boards with all the great info, it might be wise to make sure your Credit is in the "Good " category then re apply to get out of the Bucket and into the premier cards. This will enable you to get higher CL's and more importantly better rates.

We know that people have escaped the starter bucket, but I don't think we have much of a clue as to when or why it happens. All I can suggest is to use the standard CLI nudges and keep trying. You'll know one way or the other soon enough.

You were 100% correct my last CLI was in August 29,2018. I just spoke to a rep and she stated I would be eligible for a CLI after March 2nd. And that they wouldn’t hold my prior app for a CLI against me. Besides I’m going to PIF my account here at the end of February anyways. Thanks again for opening up my eyes to CapitalOne’s policy 😎👍.
