Cobranded cards are a great way to celebrate you're business with the retailer. Retailers spend a fortune trying to get you to join them.

AMEX is great about allowing you to get other cards if that is what you are asking. I have the HILTON card, and the AMEX Everyday, and the Delta Gold.

Hi everyone,

I have the Bloomingdale’s AMEX and I love it. I get a good amount of rewards certificates, and I really like the monthly promotions they send out. I can usually take advantage of a lot of them and end up earning even more. I wish I had gotten it years ago.

There are a few things that I normally buy which aren’t carried by Bloomingdale’s, but are in other department stores. I was thinking of either getting a Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, or Saks card to fill in the gap.

I can’t find much information about these cards online and the promotions they send out. Do they send out monthly promotions like Bloomingdale’s? Are they useful? I don’t want to waste a HP and get a new account if it’s just going to sit in my wallet. For instance, I’ve read that NM really only gets worthwhile after $10k in yearly spend. I won’t be spending that kind of money, but if they had monthly promos or something, the value of the card could look a little different.

Thanks!

Department Stores National Bank issues the card, and it simply runs on the Amex network.

I can't give much advice about department store cards as I very rarely shop at one.

They have just revamped their rewards program, and there are different levels of the Club. They will quite frequently a few times a year, send out emails where all your purchases during a certain time frame earn 10pts/$, so your rewards add up quickly, depending on your level of spend as well. You can read about it here.............

https://shop.nordstrom.com/content/rewards-terms-conditions

It really depends OP. I have all of the ones you mentioned. But, for individuals who place moderate to considerable spend at those retailers, then the specific loyalty level would stand to yield those benefits from a rewards perspective.

For instance, depending on the loyalty level (such as what @pizza1 references with regard to Nordstrom), you get different perks. You don't necessarily have to have the specific CC with the retailer, but if you want the "extras" (private shopping or cardholder events, frequent discounts galore, complimentary shipping, special financing on $X purchases, etc.), you'd have to explore which CC and loyalty program stands to provide you the best benefit depending on how much you frequent or spend at that retailer.

IME, "Top Of The List" is much easier to sustain with Bloomindgale's than it would be "Icon Status" with Nordstrom. @pizza1 is the Icon "queen" so we know she's a baller

Thanks, you guys, for your opinions!

I’m pretty close to Top of the List at Bloomingdale’s for this year already, but it’s significantly less spending than Icon status! 😂

I was leaning towards Nordstrom because of the benefits and the new Nordy Club. I think I do a bit more shopping at NM and Saks than Nordstrom, but I could change that up for most things that aren’t Saks or NM exclusives. NM doesn’t seem (at least from my research) to send out a whole ton of offers as incentives to use the card, which is more of what I’m looking to take advantage of in a store card.
