Imo one last mega charge wont make a difference. You will get the sp increase or you wont. The good thing about Citi sp tries is you can keep trying after denial. I would try again in March.

Hey, guys.

My 6 month anniversary is coming up since my last credit increase (8-31-18). Originally, my starting limit was $11,600, which I considered a little to lean for a daily driver. On 8-31, I took a hard pull and got up to $16000.

Since then the card has since enormous daily usage, including autopay and daily charges (average $3000+ monthly.

Recently, I charged a new furnace ($12300) and paid it off. I just charged a $6000 insurance bill.

My current balance is about $8500. Is it better to pay this off or leave it on the card (to demonstrate significant charging) when I apply on website (SP) for an increase? Also, when would you apply if your last increase was 8-31? I just tried today (since it was SP) and was denied.

Thanks!!

Johnny50

Citi can see your use, no need to let it report for them.

You jumped the gun on the request by a couple of weeks.

Citi has a strict 6-months between CL increases.

I would pay it down and then request an increase on the first of March. Lenders know what a person spends so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

My SL on the DC card was 8k ... they only went up 3k (+38%) at 6 mos, then 3k (+27%) at 12 mos ... finally got a decent bump at 18 mos of 8k (+57%). All user-requested SP and exactly on the +6 month date.

I use this card a lot, it's my "default" card when the category isn't a 3-5% with BoA CashRewards, Freedom, or Discover (or a 5% store card)

Congrats on the increase for one. That is something CITI is known for. Giving beautiful line increases across the cards they offer.

Hard pulls suck iMO. I would keep an eye out for that SP language. Other than that you have a beautiful credit line, and most borrowers would be shocked to see this.

An $11,600 SL on a DC card is pretty hefty, so your profile is definitely a good one in the eyes of Citi. Assuming it has only gotten stronger since your SL approval, you'll probably see a nice increase when you get it in a couple of weeks.
