Cap One does not allow customer initiated CLI's for some of their low-end cards. Considering your CL is $750, your card likely falls into that category. I know mine does. The response I have always received is the same, "Your account is not eligible for customer initiated CLIs, we do periodic reviews, etc".

I don't believe customer requested CLIs have been frozen for everybody; but either way getting a CLI from Cap One right now may not happen. I've heard far more about CLD than CLI from them recently.

Your way out may be to just pay down that util %.

Hi guys - first post!

I've tried almost all the backdoor numbers on this site, but I've been unable to get a CLI on my Cap1 card. I've had the account in good standing for over a year, and I'm stuck at a paltry 750 CL.

The response, which has been the same from frontline CSR to backdoor numbers, is "We are no longer considering customer initiated CLIs. We do periodic automatic reviews for CLI, and we cannot tell you when that might be." Even account specialists and retention higher ups give me the same answer!

I've had to charge a few things short term when I moved into my new apartment, and since my limit is so low my FICO score has tanked! Now I can't even get a different CC to replace my Cap1.

Not sure what to do, its a catch 22. FICO is low because my utilization % is too high, % is too high because my limit is too low, and FICO is too low to get a different card.

Regardless, has anyone else hit this brick wall at Cap1? Solutions?

Capital One should be avoided at all costs and getting their card should be the last resort. They lead the CC companies in complaints, bad behaviour, etc...

If you have to get it, as soon as you qualify for a better companies card moth ball it, but leave the line open and use it every 3 0r 4 months for petty things like a $20 charge.

If you are rebuilding your credit or just starting out with no credit, I would recommend cap one over Orchard Bank (fees, fees, and more fees)or HSBC (fees, fees, and fees)products. If you enroll in Cap one's credit steps (no annual fee)they are really pretty good. Your account is what you make of it. Handle it well and you will get increases every fourth month, handle it bad and you wont get anything. Better than the others that nickel and dime you in tiny limit increases that take years to acculmulate, not to mention with Orchard or HSBC some of their products only go to 500.00 limit and that is where they stay forever, and they will not buge! You can say what you want about cap one being crap one, but at least they give increases that make somewhat of a difference.

I've had a Cap1 card for 10 years and had two CLI's during that time. It bumped up from $500 in the course of 5 years, then stayed the same. That was great since I use that one for online purchases, then PIF immediately for other purchases. Recently, they bumped up my CL by $2000 to $3,700, and I didn't even request it. RATS!!! Thinking of calling them to decrease my CL so I don't start spending more! They did also reduce my interest rate by 6% also. That I was happy with. Cap1 was my first card and, unfortunately, won't drop my annual $59 fee. Since I don't pay any interest throughout the year, I just consider it insurance for online purchasing.

When I called the backdoor number yesterday to check on some account info (hence my post about what to do) the representative advised me they are no longer accepting customer initiated CLIs. Stated has been almost a month and he does not know how long will last.
