@Anonymous wrote:

Long time lurker and first time poster!

I got a Capital One Quicksilver back last May. It's my first "real" credit card. The card is nearly 10 months old and I've not had any increases to my $1000 line of credit. I've never missed a payment on anything and tend to spend anywhere from $600-$2500 a month on this card. I pay it off several times each month so the balance is usually under $400. When I first began requesting a CLI, they informed me that my payments were too low, despite me having paid $600-$2500/month on the card over the course of the month. I always pay the balance in full, but it usually reports only about $50-100 when the statement closes. I let the balance report as $700ish around Christmas to have a large payment reported to the bureaus and they are still denying me an increase. The new reasons I'm being denied are as follows: credit bureau information is missing or unavailable, a credit limit increase on your account is not currently available upon request, a cli is currently not available on your account because capital one is evaluating account activity at assigned credit limits, and we were unable to obtain your most recent monthly payment data from the credit reporting agency. My fico according to discover credit score card is 760. My average age of accounts is 2.5 years or so and I've never missed any payments. What gives? I really need to get another card to have a more stable profile long term, but I can't decide what I want to apply for and since I'm considering buying a vehicle I don't want to take a hard inquiry right now. It's really annoying that capital one refuses to increase my credit line to tide me over. I increased my monthly payment to well above the minimum and then they changed the reason they weren't giving me a CLI. It doesn't make sense lol I guess I'm just venting. I've read here that capital one buckets cardholders. Maybe I'm bucketed because I had a thin profile when I applied. Regardless, I was approved for the Quicksilver without an annual fee. I figured it would grow by now.

My personal experience with Capital One has been that they like to see you come close to the full limit and pay it down fairly quickly before they give you an increase. Again, this is my personal experience. My Savor card actually started as a Platinum around 10 years ago at $1500. I barely ever used it. I started using it in like 2015 and running it up and paying it down. First they put it up to $2000, then I ran it up again and paid it down and they put it all the way up to $6,500. Then I did it again through some big purchases like furniture etc and paid it down about half way and they jacked it up to 8,000. It hasnt moved since, and it won't because the APR is terrible so not worth it to run it up again. They really do only give you what you use, at least in my case, which is unfortunate. On my last CLI request one of the reasons was not enough use of current credit line. I'm never using it again unless it's an emergency, they might cut it in half for all I know. Good luck.

Cap1 and CLI's are not something that go together really. You will see more posts on here of not getting increases than getting them.
I would suggest looking into something like Amex or Discover if you want to see increases over time.
