Macys upgrade from store to AmEx

Hi, I was just wondering if its normal for Macys to upgrade the basic store card to the Macys American Express without any notifications? I haven't recieved anything from Macys but I went to check the balance on my card to see if I paid off my Christmas purchases yet but was instantly transferred to customer serivce, the person told me my card was closed as I was approved for the upgrade to the American Express card and my balance was transferred to the new card. Is this normal? Is this a good/bad thing? Should I be worried the card/account is closed but transferred to a new card? So many questions as I've been looking into ways to build my credit score higher since I'm close to 700. I've had my Macy's card for 8 years and have only request an increase twice which were approved. Thanks.

It's a good thing, since your new card will now also work on the AMEX payment network. You can also use it anyplace that accepts AMEX, not just Macy's, although it will still continue to be issued by a business unit of Citibank i.e. it isn't an AMEX card per se.

I've only heard of them giving prior mailed notice of intent with an option to opt out. This is the first time I've heard of someone just being upgraded and sent a new card without prior notice.

They will continue to use the current tradeline, they do not close your existing tradeline and open a new one. Your AAoA and AOyA will not take a hit.

I believe one had a certain date to decline and if not declined, auto upgrade. Weird you didnt get notice , i got 2 mailers so im eagerly anticipating 2 Amex cards i bet if you asked for another cli you'd get it. Macys is Citibank's Synchrony lol

Thanks. I've gone through my emails and mail for any notifications but there's nothing. I had just got the 2nd level Macy's card in the mail about 3 weeks ago. I'll ask for the CLI when I pay off the $100 order I placed today next week.

Whats your current limit? Make sure to aim high. I think asking in 5k increments is a nice total so as not to spook

Yes it is weird to not get notified and upgraded to AMEX version. I got my notification more than a month back and had option to decline the upgrade by certain date, which of course i didn't. Just logged in and saw it already got upgraded and the new card is on wa]y. It is a good thing since it will not be stuck to only MACYs where i barely shop lol
