BBVA Compass ClearPoints Extra Gas Rewards

I got an email offering 5 rewards points on gas instead of the usual 3. I already use this as a gas card so this is great. Anybody else?

Yep I got it too. Too bad I never go to gas stations, that’s an extra 5 points on top of your points earning so either 6, 7, or 8 total points!

The problem with Sams Club is you only get the 5% gas on the Mastercard and when you're approved they decide whether you get the store card or MC. I got the store card a couple years and ended up closing it as I don't do wholesale clubs, I live alone (well, +2 dogs) and don't want to buy 20 pounds of steak or two years worth of trash bags.

Boo, I didn't get the ClearPoints Extra Gas Rewards, but I've only had the card around 2 weeks. I use my BoA Cash Rewards for 3% on gas, and takes me almost a year to meet the $25 minimum reward redemption. My car gets 37mpg and work is a 10 minute commute, so gas isn't a huge spend category for me.

Yuck, I didn’t know that about the Sam’s card. That’s pretty awful that you can get stuck with the store card with good credit.

It makes sense for them though because store cards earn more for the stores while the MasterCard will earn more money for Sync.

I definitely dont have any gas expenses and I doubt that 7-11 sells King Soopers/Kroger gift cards so this will be another BBVA offer that goes to waste.

However, when they gave me the “approval” it was for the wrong card lol. “Congratulations. We’re able to approve you for the card you didn’t want.” Lol they told me that the card I wanted wasn’t available for new members or something.
